Obviously I'm going to go into spoilers so stop if you don't want to get spoiled.
Anyway first things first I have to make clear that I normally don't read gore/horror mangas simply because I don't like scary stuff. But this mangas goal wasn't to scare the heck outta me, but to entertain me, which it perfectly did. I adore the characters and the humor. I enjoyed the gory stuff and the overall story. I came here with high expectations because of how much it got praised. Am I saying I got disappointed? Mmmmm no, not really. I had a much better time than watching some movies these days and I don't regret starting to reading it. But I wasn't satisfied after finishing it.
The first thing that left me unsatisfied was when Denji fought against the gun devil. Yeah it wasn't the worst thing, but when the very first half of this story was to build up the fight with the gun devil, I expected it to be somewhat a big thing and not like every fight denji has fought up to this point. It felt underwhelming considering how much the story build up to this point. Still, I'm not as bothered as the next thing, because this fight wasn't the big finale, but a stage build by makima to break denji.
And the other big thing that left me feel unsatisfied was the death of makima. I don't know if that's just me, but considering how much pain and suffering she brought to denji and other people I expect something more... Dramatic? Like when denji said he ate makima to make her stop existing I would have wanted to see that. Isn't that supposed to be a gore manga? Besides after how much the author could possibly made me dislike her I wanted to see her death worth my frustration that has been pent up for a few chapters. I wanted her punishment to be satisfying and not somehow forgiving. You see it won't change a fact that she still got eaten and her character got deleted through that, but just to tell me and not showing me is kind of.... I want to see the metaphor that when she got eaten by denji her desires (that had lead to everything she had done) won't get full filled. She lost and the chainsaw man isn't her "dog" for her to keep forever and she couldn't get eaten by the chainsaw man, which she is obsessed with. She couldn't be with one with the chainsaw man, but with denji- a nobody in her eyes who isn't even worth her attention. And that's actually quitenthe worst case scenario for her and best as her ending. But I want to see that. It sounds sadistic or evil, but that's just how people tick. If someone has done something terrible, we would wish that something equally as terrible would happend to them. That's why karma is so satisfying. I don't know why the author denied this situation to been drawn, idk if thats because the graceful makima does not deserve her fate to been shown. But it would made the ending so much satisfying and impactfuller in my eyes and I wouldn't be here writing this shit.
If you read till now let me just give you an cookie. And sorry if some sentences are hard to understand, because as you might guess english isn't my first language (neither second) so it's bit challenging to write an whole ass essay about an manga I enjoyed.
You’re right from top to bottom ! One of the main default of CSM is the death of the characters. It lacks impact and tragedy
in my opinion, especially *SPOILER* Makima’s death *END OF SPOILER*. Fujimoto has introduced way too much characters just to kill them right away. As readers it’s hard to empathize/care, you just feel numb.
The thing with the Gun Devil was disappointing but still I really loved the transition between the fight and Aki’s memories.
CSM is really good but indeed the end is unsatisfactory in many ways.
Yeah, I have watched a few videos about this and now understand more about Makimas motivations as the indirect massage the author left in those scenes. Yet it is really not as impactful as some of the most iconic Anime deaths. It's just simply that those character that died are sometimes not really fleshed out. As for Makima consider how her "backstory" goes it makes sense why she is like this, but you have to grasp every little evidence to come to this conclusion. I don't believe that the author wanted us to sympathize with her (yet) because her character still lack that panel that showed her in those life changing situations. I think I would care for her more if it's shown how she got badly treated by the government and such. But for now I simply can't and the ending wasn't quite satisfying and it simply can't justify her actions. It's like an webtoon I have read (Ennead if you are interested) were the main protagonist is portrayed at the start as a villain, killing millions of lives and abusing his power as a God to bring suffering upon the land. As for starter you naturally begins to hate him, but once his reasoning, the moment that shaped him to become a murderer is revealed to the reader (and by that point you started to kinda like him as an character but you still has his sins in your head) you kinda feel sympathy for him. But that of course doesn't make his murder go away, or sins he committed far from even redamption, but you still accept him as someone you can care for and have sympathy for.
Still I sincerely believe her to be eaten by Denji is quite worst for her, considering how much she wanted to be eaten by someone equal or even stronger. And I am not sure why but I just can't really feel the same way as many here are stating. Being all hyped and just really enjoying the ending. I really wish I am feeling like this, but sadly the ending of this season(?) left me with an quite bitter-sweet feeling. I enjoyed the story, but the end didn't really satisfied my expectations.
My only hope is that the Anime could flesh out some of these important scenes with more tension and more dramatic means. The dialogue and massage of CSM is genius if you come to understand it, but sometimes I feel like the rubber band (which is my methapor of tension) isn't stretched enough to make me crawls behind my blanket. I hope the animation, pacing, atmosphere and music can make me feel as satisfied as many here, but if I put too much expectations into something unknown I might get disappointed so for now I'm not going to expect much from the anime.
But the reader is supposed to read this right? I would have accepted if you said that this is my only opinion because it is, but a manga is supposed to entertain (and also satisfy) the reader(now completely out of context here). It's like saying a movie only concerns the character, but not the people watching it.
I'm stating this again for people, who skipped the "author's warning". This shit (aka rape scene) is not canon, so this won't influence the main story in any way. Also the relationship between Horus and Seth there is not true to the real relationship they build up until now, nor will this scene be important in the future seasons.
As well as the wholesome story where Seth became tiny.
I hope it cleared things up.
AWOOOGAAAAA AWOOOGAAAA
