Since the beginning of Volume 8 with every chapter, Asami has started to look a lot more like Akihito. Sometimes you can clearly see the resemblance between them. I'm talking about the drawing style. The author must have noticed that Asami has started to look less like the Asami every fujoshi & fudanshi fell for & has begun to look more like Akihito's distant relative. It's distracting when in the middle of a chapter, you suddenly begin noticing the resemblance between the two mc's, it puts me off of reading the manga any further. Dang it! Will the rest of the characters start to look like Akihito too? Who's next? Suoh? And more importantly, WHY!?!

Yes, the drawing style has changed & improved, i must say. But that doesn't explain why only Asami has started to look like Aki's distant relative. I mean, Kirishima pretty much looks like his former self.

It's much more obvious on that colored page. If you observe carefully, it's also evident in the chapter where Akihito & Asami get on a helicopter to get away from Aaron.

When doing colored pages, they usually deviate from the actual color of the characters eyes or hair. I have noticed that in many mangas. I never understood why though.

Because most people are biased about their favourite characters or authors. It takes a lot of nerve to put aside your own feelings and notice something objectively.

Both of the mc's look too much alike, as in they're both drawn with the same face cut & features. Even if there hair colors are different it's hard to comprehend at times who's speaking. And in all the effort to make sense of the confusion, you can't enjoy the story as it should be enjoyed.

In the first chapters, we see Asami using Akihito as his personal cum-dump. Then Fei-way-too-Long-hair appears & does the same. We find out the backstory of Feilong's grudge towards Asami. In "flower on the high loft", we see the way Asami treated Feilong in the past. While reading that chapter, i couldn't help but make a comparison of the way Asami treated Feliong & Akihito.
1a) Asami got stabbed while protecting Feilong.
1b) Asami got shot while protecting Akihito.
What's the significance of him getting shot for Akihito if he did the same for Feilong? It's not that much of a big deal for Asami, is it?
2a) When Feilong found out that his father was critically ill, he wanted to go back & visit him. Asami tried to reason with him that it was a trap. But Feilong was in no condition to think logically so Asami had to force him to stay by kissing him senseless.
2b) When Akihito's friends were taken captive by Feilong, he went to beg Asami to help him. When Asami refused he decided to go to Feilong & do something himself. Asami stopped him by kissing him senseless too.
When i read that kissing scene between Aki & Asami, i thought it was cute how Asami was keeping Aki from leaving that he grabbed him for a kiss. Then i recalled that he did the same with Feilong.
3a) When Asami kisses Feilong but doesn't go any further, Feilong asks him "Is that it?". Asami replies that he doesn't want to drive Feilong into a corner.
3b) When Asami kissed Aki to stop him from leaving to meet with Feilong, he didn't just stop at that. He was quite persistent that day in fucking Aki. It was the first time the two had sex in bed which was not non-con but it was not consensual either.
While reading the scene where Asami stops before doing anything more than kissing with Feilong & tells him that he doesn't want to drive him into a corner by doing more, i got the feeling that it was respectful of Asami to do that. When the same scene happened with Aki, Asami wasted no time in stripping him without even asking for consent. And before that when Asami tells Akihtio he won't let him go, Aki asks what he means by that since Asami won't even know if anything bad does happen to him. Asami replies that Akihito doesn't have that kind of value.
These scenes resemble each other & it's hard not to compare the way Asami treats both of them in it. In my opinion, Asami treated Feilong better than he treated Akihito which has got me all confused since i ship Asahito. Whyyy? Why did my brain have to analyze the story to this extent?

I think that Asami was in love with Fei (only a little), but whatever happened in the past- stayed in the past. Poor Fei TT TT

    Anoni Grrl January 8, 2017 10:28 pm

Yeah, I think Asami had feelings for Fei, but they never developed into the type he has for Aki. Asami never asked Fei to come home with him. Asami started asking Aki to move in fairly quickly, and Asami aggressively moved Aki in after the Hong Kong arc. This shows a level of ... er whatever..that I don't think Asami has had before.

    eworth January 9, 2017 3:10 am

My take on 1b) It's not so much about the significance of Asami being willing to take a knife or a bullet for someone (after all, it's said he would die for any of his men) than it is about the different responses to Asami's selflessness in these situations. First, Fei's response where it's all about Fei:

    http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v02/c006/19/

    And then Aki's:

Aki is concerned for Asami, horrified that the wound has reopened. Fei, by contrast, takes it as a tribute.

On the kissing/sex stall tactics, Fei wasn't in mortal danger at that point. He had also been raised in that world and already proved to Asami to be a fairly ruthless operator. Aki, on the other hand, was in mortal danger as Asami's perceived lover and rather naive yet about the world into which he'd stumbled. So aside from the fact that Asami just wanted to boink him, it was more critical to keep Aki contained than it was Fei.

I think with the Fei incident there is also a nice symbolism going on in that both Asami and Fei had their hand injured. It gives that picture of Fei holding Asami's hand another layer. I think that in the "this inury was for my sake" scene what comes through very strongly is the fact that prior to meeting Asami Fei used to think of himself as someone rather worthless, unloved, unworthy of protection or even affection. Asami gives him both. I think he also gives him respect, something he craved from his family and was never granted. A bit of healing going on here. Physically and emotionally. Fei holding Asami's hand in that scene is really him marveling that someone, anyone would do this for someone like him, putting himself in harm's way, maybe even sees something in him. It's just tragic that Fei then takes it to another emotional level whereas Asami did not (because to him it was about the respect, the protection, the attraction, but just not about love). And so sadly, while Asami managed to heal some of Fei's wounds (the one on his hand, the ones in his soul and self-confidence), due to the tragic events that followed, other and bigger wounds (again, physically and emotionally) were opened.

Fei was in mortal danger. If Yan can kill his biological father, he can pretty much murder his adopted brother too. And he did say "i really might kill you too". When Akihito was kidnapped it was quite clear that Fei was using him to rile up Asami, killing him wouldn't make it as much as fun as playing with him to lure Asami out. If it wasn't so important to keep Fei contained then Asami wouldn't have bothered kissing him at all since he would've predicted that Fei would leave after the kiss. It wouldn't have mattered either way. I believe there is something more to that scene.

The scene with Asami getting hurt while protecting Fei has another significance. When Fei was tending to Asami's wound, he was thinking about the fact that Asami sustained this injury for his sake & every time that thought brings him comfort. If you truly love someone then the thought of them getting hurt is painful, not comforting. When that injury is for your sake that makes it not only painful but also regretful. I believe that Fei needed someone to cherish him, anyone would have been enough. He simply wanted to be loved. He asks Asami that if Asami will be able to love him in place of his father which shows that he yearned for love & acceptance from his father & he was using Asami's care to fill that void in himself.
When Asami gets hurts while protecting Akihito & sustains gunshot wounds, Akihito wonders again & again in Hong Kong if Asami would be healed enough to come & fetch him. He asks Asami why would he do that for him as he has become a burden to him. When Akihito sees the that Asami's wound has reopened & is bleeding, he cries. He cries not because he is comforted by the thought of that wound but pained. When Asami sees Akihito's tears his expression softens.

Many people would feel honored if Asami Ryuichi took a bullet for them, few would cry. I believe Akihito's reaction to Asami doing that for him, made Asami feel more smitten with the boy.

I never thought about it that way but I couldn't agree more. Akihito is worried about asami and feels guilty, while fei long takes it as a deed of respect. I don't think asami had any romantic feelings to fei long at all, just maybe friendship and empathy. You described the idea that fei long was just looking for someone to fill his father's void perfectly. He just got stuck on asami without really knowing him, compared to akihito - who learned to love asami for who he is. Btw, I think asami protected fei long to gain his trust - let's not forget that he needed to manipulate him, he had a mission. From akihito he can't gain anything (let's put akihito's perfect body aside for a sec :P ) , akihito is nothing in the world of crime and protecting him is a burden. Again, great interpretation!

Exactly! I believe Asami wanted to earn Fei's trust as he says, "Seven years ago, i tried to convince Fei Long to become the head of Baishe in order to spread a new route across Chinese market... but it didn't end well". In order to convince Fei Long, Asami would have to gain his trust first which is why he took care of Fei's injury which should care & got a stabbed for him which should protection. Both of which can earn anyone's trust easily. Asami is a businessman through & through. Akihito never considered himself "special" to Asami. So, he tries to get Asami to acknowledge him by doing crazy things like going after Sakazaki. He doesn't realize until volume 8 that he is a part of Asami's private life not his career life so he doesn't need to worry about pleasing Asami (unless it's in bed ;) ) as Asami doesn't want aything FROM him. He just wants Akihito, himself. And Akihito doesn't need to worry about Asami disposing of him because it beats the whole point of Asami wanting Akihito all to himself & to be the only one to do anything to Akihito.
One of the reasons why Asami doesn't try to cage Akihito is because he wants Akihito to come to him of his own accord which Akihito repeatedly does. He wants him to realize that despite the fact that he can hurt Akihito if he wants to, "I am the only one who can stop you from breathing", he will not hurt Akihito, "All you need to do is trust only in me." & he'll give Akihito whatever he wants, "What i give to you is your everything(as in Akihito's pain & pleasure)", as long as Akihito remembers "you are mine", he belongs to Asami.
