Late Night Rants: Part 7
————————————
If the main plot point of the story isn’t romance and the main lead can show up later in the story....have them show up later in the story!!!!!!!! Like I’m tired of knowing ep 1 about who main lead is and then having them disappear for a few years *cough* all Chinese webtoons *cough.* Japanese webtoons have the guy helping the girl all throughout which is also annoying but at least it seems more real. Although, at the same time, it’s like the girl should help herself.
Korean webtoons I find do this really well. Like if the guy is introduced at that time in the story there is a reason for it. Like unlike Chinese and Japanese webtoons, in Korean ones the guy exists outside of being a suitable match for ml girl.
*s/n all of the above generalizations is towards the popular webtoons of those countries*

If ml guy is gonna be an adult I expect ml girl to be an adult too. If ml guy is gonna be a teen I expect ml girl to either be the same age or younger/older by two years or less.
Like there is no reason to have your ml guy be a full grown adult chasing/making moves on a child! & no I don’t care if it is a historical piece!!! There is no reason to have a 18+ year old chasing a 12+ year old!!!!! That is sick!!!! & if having a big age gap is important to the story you better make all the characters over University Age!!!!!!
Especially those “former adults turned young teen bc of transmigration” stories....transmigration doesn’t make it okay for a full grown adult to be into a young teen!!!! & nooooo I don’t want to hear and “they mentally mature” BS that the authors use as to why the adult finds a young kid attractive.
Also, can we just take about why it’s needed for some of these characters to be minors anyway? Like if it’s not central to the plot, for the characters to be minors, just have them be in their 20s!!! Especially with historical pieces!!! Just have them in their 20s!!!!!! & in modern day pieces? If it’s important for the characters to be in a school setting *drum roll please* maybe consider having them be....University students!!!!

Is it just me who has whole webtoon ideas in my head but for the life of me can’t draw? & like I don’t want to make a wattpad type story and I need to start reading actual books again if I want to write a real novel. But even if I were to write a novel the audience I would be writing for are people who read Manhwa/manhuas and are already familiar with the common troupes.
Like I’ve had different ideas stuck in my head for the longest and the only way to make them go away is to write the whole plot down along with a detailed character analysis in my notes app. But then just as I forget about that story a new story idea pops up in my head and it won’t go away until I write everything down.
Late Night Rants: Part 4
————————————
Yoo so I find the ‘hot powerful ml guy type’ attractive but at the same time I’m sick of them? Like at this point since the ‘hot powerful ml guy type’ are soo overused it turned into a must have accessory to every ml girl’s story?
But at the same time even though I’m sick of this type I find them attractive and if ml girl doesn’t end up with this type then I’m like wtf? Like if the girl ends up with a regular commoner I’m like....uhm sis you can do better so do better?
I don’t know I wish the stories that do have the ‘hot powerful ml guy type’ stops treating these guys as just an accessory? Bc at this point if you put all these guys into one room together then I honestly couldn’t tell you how they are different from each other. Actually I probably couldn’t even tell you who is who considering how they all look alike too LOL.
Late Night Rants: Part 3
————————————
While I loved transmigration stories in the beginning at this point it’s too overdone? Like I love a good well done transmigration story where there is a badass assassin in modern times who went to a cultivation world. But sometimes the authors on here use transmigration when it’s not needed to tell a good story? Like what’s the point in having a office worker go to a cultivation world? Just write the story you wanted to tell us with the original character of that world?! Like when authors do that it honestly just feels like a self-insertion....does the author wish to become that character or does the author want the readers to wish the become that character?
I used cultivation stories as an example above but this problem isn’t only in cultivation stories! At the end of the day I just want to see more characters going through growth. I am tired of seeing these characters dying, then someone from 21st century Earth replacing them and “fixing” everything. Like what is the point in that? I would rather connect with the original person of the body and watch them grow into a better/stronger person.
Late Night Rants: Part 2
————————————
I feel like I read most of the good stories on here? Like I spent September - December just nonstop reading and none of the stories on here excite me anymore? Like they first did? I find myself having to comb through a lot of bad stories just to find good well fleshed stories?
Late Night Rants: Part 1
———————————
I’m soo tired of the stories where the girl gets wronged, time rewinds, she falls for a pretty handsome guy who is high ranking but despite the fact she grew up as a noble she had never met the guy in her previous life, and along with the help of this pretty handsome high ranking mysterious guy she easily outsmarts everyone who wronged her before, and the end. Like that’s too easy and basic! Please I want a story where the girl gets wronged and instead of time rewinding she moves forward in time! Where the people who hurt her remember exactly how they hurt her! I want to see the girl crawl from the bottom and rise up on her own merits! & the ml guy I want to watch him stick with her and help her even after knowing her past!
I think there is only one story I can think of that moved forward in time...well kinda...the girl transmigrated into another girls body. While I was happy we had the girl moving forward in time, I was sad to see that the girl was called ugly in her previous body and the new body she transmigrated to was deemed as “pretty.” Like I would’ve preferred original girl to have a makeover scene instead to boost ml girl and the readers self confidence.
S/N Chouka Kou does the moving forward in time after being hurt...along with the going from the bottom to then rising to the top well! Although, ml girl was too young for time to even rewind for her.
So I read this manga last night despite the 9.0 rating (I usually don’t go below 9.2). I read it despite the rating because it seemed like some people in the topics who read the novel were giving biased reviews. I do agree that this story is tragic. For all six chapters of the manga my heart was heavy. The author does an amazing job at connecting you to Ilya and her emotions. After finishing the manga I had to read the web novel (I never ever read web novels so this just goes to so how good the manga is). Before I continue my review I would like to state that I went into the novel without reading any spoilers.
When I finished the web novel and scrolled through the spoilers on here I saw that a lot of the complaints about the story was that it was too tragic and sad. However, as I read the web novel there was not a single moment where I had to stop reading because it was too sad (granted different people have different tolerances). The reason why I state that it isn’t sad enough to drop is because, since Ilya of the present is the one that’s always narrating, there is always a level of distance between both the readers+Ilya and her past lives. Another complaint I saw in the topics was that the ending was tragic and not worth it...to me this is far from the truth. If you go into the web novel expecting it to have a typical revenge manga/manhwa ending then I could see why you would be disappointed. If you treat the characters and the story as real then you will see that the ending is in fact happy, peaceful, and hopeful.
Overall, I highly encourage you to read the web novel/manga. Ilya’s story is worth reading.
|| EDIT: You will feel sad both during and after you finish reading though so if you have depression I do not recommend you read this. If you have history of depression (like I do), read at your own risk. ||
