Ummmm sooo WHO is going to create a demographics survey so that we can put the readers' sexuality question to a rest????
I feel like everyone is just taking it for granted that the majority of mangagoers are straight females so why dont we actually gather the data?
Also, lets say I decided put together a survey. Where should I post it on this site for maximum visibility in order to reach as many people as possible? thx
By clicking on a random manga. On the right side on your screen should be the text ‘People are sharing things’ with the topics underneath that text. You can click a random one. Like this for example:
http://www.mangago.zone/thing/about/265456/
Click on ‘stay up too late reading yaoi’ in this case. After you will see a searchbar saying ‘Search thing’. Here you can choose the topic where you want to post your question in, or you could just post the question by the topic you have infront of you now. You can post a question by clicking on the + Question button.
I am looking for manhwa/hua/gas with a more realistic approach to LGBTQ+ issues. It seems many BL manhwas choose not to deal with issues such as coming out, self-acceptance, internalized homophobia etc. I think many characters come to terms with their same sex attraction all so suddenly and comfortably which is pretty much not in line with the realities of contemporary Korean/Chinese/Japanese societies. Any BL or GL works where the creator follows a more realistic approach?
I am not looking for something tragic, melodramatic or sensational, just something that feels natural. Doesn't matter whether it's a happy or sad story. Would prefer manhwa or manhua over manga unless you got a really really good manga.
Cheers <3
This is based on a real story and the only one I know http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/until_i_meet_my_husband/ but I’d say mostly there are more mangas that are realistic compared to manhwa/huas
For BL:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/torokeru_tamago_to_bed_no_naka_de/ - established relationship where one partner wants to go one step further.
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/tonari_ni/ - pretty relatable that doesn't go dramatic route.
Oh, I do remember a manhwa that does seem pretty grounded (it even has an asexual side character).

What is the distinction between bara and yaoi? What makes a manga to be categorized as bara and not yaoi??? Is it purely body type of the mc? Can someone educate me pls?
Yeah, since pretty boy physique is common to MOST bl manga, NOTABLE MENTIONS: KS, PAINTER OF THE NIGHT, JAZZ FOR TWO
Bara basically do their chatacters the way most men look, BIG, HAIRY, More muscular
Although in some cases of bara, there would be chatacters that arent really that muscular but doesnt fit in the pretty boy category as well so yeah
ON ANOTHER NOTE THOUGH.
Yaoi is directed mostly to FEMALE READERS/FUJOS
While bara is also gay erotic content but made BY GAY artists, for GAY men
Since yaoi doesnt really potray LGBTQ+ representation that well
*Sexualization of rape, Fetishizing MLM, etc etc
hi! so, while they are both within the category of bl, bara is made by gay men with the target audience being for gay men. that doesn't mean anyone else can't read it, but like shoujo anime for example, while the target audience are woman, of course anyone can watch or read it! yaoi is also an outdated term, and it's really only used in western places. most just catagorize all types of bl (yaoi, shounen ai, bara etc) under just the term 'bl.' anyhow, yaoi in western terms is generally made by woman for woman. so, unlike bara, the target audience is woman. again that doesn't mean anyone else can't read it, it's just the target audience!
both (on most western unofficial websites) will generally have adult content in it. however, the thing about bara too is yes, it does tend/almost always have bigger men in it. keep in mind men can write yaoi too, but the content separates the two as well. yaoi tends to have more cutesy themes or the whole 'mean seme and timid uke.' bara tends to have all the members who are apart of the relationship having muscular features or bigger bodies.
please keep in mind im not an expert at this, but this is what i've learnt from the research i've down prior. hope this helps!
Looking for GL that has a interesting overarching plot that doesn't merely revolve around romance. Perhaps action or fantasy... or even just good drama. Preferably no "Slice of life" or "School girl" themes.
