This is it, I can now quit reading manhwas in peace (jk lol not yet) because literally nothing better can be done in this genre. Great nonlinear storytelling that keeps the audience intrigued, heavy topic but light-hearted real-life characters, meaningful and relevant suspense (and not just plot devices or tropes that we often see in manhwas) there is nothing not to love about this T_T
I don't think reading webtoons should equal escapism, and this is a great example of that. There is nothing wrong about lighthearted entertaining topics and escapism but there is just too much of that already. This manhwa keeps it suspenseful and heavy but also fun and bittersweet at the same time. ANYWAY I just can't T_T so I wanted to promote!!!
So I have been reading about these cancer rumors a lot and I want to clarify some things:
It seems that people have been basing this rumor on the mention of "terminal stage cancer" in the narration part of ch. 3. Actually, the translation that is uploaded here is a bit awkward (no offense to the translator pls~)
Maybe someone with better Chinese can correct me if I am wrong but this is how I would translate that narration:
"This was our first encounter, and we will spend the next 200 chapters going through all sorts of trials and tribulations together as it's supposed to be. There will be no such things as being involved in a murder case, a mountain climbing accident, terminal cancer, and amnesia from a car accident. But, it doesn't matter since as long as we meet again, we may gradually get close to each other anyway." (And then the crossed out part says: "or maybe not...")
When I read that part for the first time, I interpreted it as the narrator declaring that this manhua will not have these melodramatic plot twists, it will simply be a story of two people getting closer and falling in love with one another and thus their story will not rely on cliched plot devices such as terminal cancer.
ON THAT NOTE!!! I am also super stressed out by the hospital scene and I do wish that there won't be no ridiculous terminal cancer plot twists when we are so close to the end!!!
PS. This comment keeps being deleted after I post it TAT why? I already wrote it so I just wanna share ┗( T﹏T )┛
In reference to Ch. 137.8
I am happy for Yu Yang but I feel like this kind of happy flashbacks take away from his story and does not add to it. I think him being an out and proud gay was already very well told at the beginning of the manhua a long time ago. It is indeed a lift-me-up and I do wish more people were accepting like that and I wish coming out to your roommates was that easy. I was happy to read about YY and LH coming out to their parents and being accepted by them, I think that was important for the storyline.
Anyway, I know it is just a manhua but I have felt like it has done such a good job with realistic representation overall. But sometimes less is more. I just felt as if this chapter was not that necessary...
I actually feel the same way about the side story with the musician friend, I feel like it does not add to the story at all.
Or maybe I am biased because I go to uni in China and have lived in a 4 ppl dorm like that before and it would absolutely terrorize me to come out to my roommates like that. Not to mention, they would find this extremely weird even if they are openminded and accepting. It is sorta OK to come out to classmates, but for the roommates, I think the rule of thumb is "don't ask, don't tell" ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Really haha maybe I just don't get it ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ I guess I am not a big fan of secondary couples to begin with, but I was kinda sorta fine with the red haired guy and Uncle Pan but then this tertiary couple is just totally out of my range hahaha I guess I do not have the attention span to care much about them
So like, why did Gale end up giving up on his (meaningless) revenge on Simon exactly? Wasn't he still obsessed with ruining Simon's life? But then??? he just disappeared???
Did the author imply through the stories and flashbacks in ch.79 that Gale ended up forgiving Simon at that time? and was satisfied with just getting revenge on their father?
Also was Simon just blissfully ignorant that his father killed both of his wives? When Gale mentioned that it was Simon's fault that his mother died, Simon was confused about the remark but then this was never unwrapped later, or am I forgetting?
Also, so in the end did Conor actually find out that it was Veronica who got him beaten up and so on? Because I think Veronica didn't really confess this out loud (there was a flashback) and it also didn't really come up again later on so I am not really sure?? But I guess it is safe to assume so?
