It's true that verite is an adult but even adults can see other people as there parent figure, especially those who never had one. Plus we don't really know what will happen with their relationship it could go to enemies and it could go to mother child relationship and as you said it could stay as friends, and one of the reasons I see them might having a mother child relationship is cause of him changing his form to a child.
