I haven't read it yet but ...idk if it's cause I just finished reading a yaoi but for some reason there's this gay feeling I have about it. Maybe it's the art style idk
That's something I experienced in my early years of reading too. XD
For me it was because only yaoi stories had the good art back then. Nowadays you find high quality art in each genre tho. You'll get used to it. ^^
Also, some artists draw both straight and gay content and some are similar in style to other artists, so that can also often play a role in this feeling.
most girls read Yaoi cause most straight romances represent women as stupid people who can't make good decisions for themselves and mostly are boring.

AND the character dynamics between males are usually much more interesting and less predictable than straight dynamics in typical shoujo stories. Since women and men act different in certain scenarios and think/react differently in some aspects of life. That's probably one of the biggest reasons I prefer maleXmale stories. Girls are WAY too predictable in love stories, there is seldom one that's not a cookie cutter one that matches 99% of all other female characters in a love story. And that just makes it less enjoyable to read tbh. If I know what'll be said, how they'll react and the fact i know they'll end up together after one big fight due to a misunderstanding and NOT fvcking talking about it like a normal person; why bother even reading? I have seen it a dozen times already, no need to waste my time with another one that's barely any different. (Of course there are rule breakers like Skip Beat!!, the Cosplay Girlfriend story I forgot the name of and such, but those are very rare.)
Shoujo has become more annoying than enjoyable as I grew up reading different genres. Tho I have read my fair share of mediocre BL that was just clearly a shoujo artist drawing two guys instead of a guy and a woman (aka, the dude behaved EXACTLY like a shoujo main character, which is also not my cup of tea since they often create a mismatch of a cool guy image with a shoujo highschool girl personality....that's utterly weird to witness tbh XD).
Ngl I really want to see more of the mom and dad's story but maybe in a different setting where they actually do have a happy ending
The art style is very beautiful, however idk if it's the style or if the artist made it that way but their faces seem so emotionless sometimes. It's mostly because of the eyes they have the same shape when surprised, sad, calm, and happy, yeah it isn't always the case but it is more often emotionless
