Why is everyone surprised that Jace would misunderstand the duke? Before he was kidnapped they weren't on good terms and the Duke forced himself on him in the hallway, now he's suddenly suggesting "a certain type" of relationship, so of course Jace would think of a physical relationship instead of a romantic one. The Duke has yet to confess his feelings
