HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO KNOW FIRST
_____________

#1 Ok so firstly the main character is tortured by peer presure, and he is trying to fit in to the status quo of society. There is a saying in Japan that "the nail that sticks out will be hammered down, meaning those that are different will be forced to conform.

#2 Secondly in Japan it is considered rude to talk to people about ones own problems. So if there is anything that is bothering you that you want advice for, or if you have something that you want to get off your chest, you are supposed to keep it to yourself so as to not trouble others with your problems.

#3 Gay people are still being discriminated against in Japan, of course this is not limited to only Japan.

OK, HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED
________________

The main character Murano easily gives in to any kind of peer pressure as a defense mechanism developed in order to fit in and conform to societal norms, which he knows somewhere in the back of his head that he does not fit, but he doesn't want to admit it.

Murano admires Ookami for being able to live anyway he wants to and be himself without worrying about what others will think or how society will treat him, but murano also despises that about Ookami because he himself is emotionally unable be himself and live the way he wants, and is unable to emotionally handle the probable negative response and discrimination from others that doing so would bring

Murano ends up regretting having sex with Ookami because it confirmed one of the things that he was trying to deny to himself, that he is gay, which goes against what society considers normal.

After the time skip it is implied that Murano and Ookami are a now couple, however Murano is severely depressed.
He does not fit the status quo, is in the closet hiding the true him from everyone except Ookami, and still hates himself and how he can't be himself and live freely without fear of persecution like Ookami.

In the end Murano becomes suicidal, but Ookami let's Murano know that he can always be his true self around him without fear of being judged, and that he will always be there for him.
