Reading about things is very different from agreeing with what's happening. You read about Gruesome history, doesn't mean you condone what you read....hope you understood that.
Giving an example, I read and watch a lot of soap operas with my mom lol and there's all types of family tropes, it's interesting in the sense that you're curious how the cheaters will end up in the story, different writers give each character different endings so I'm reading this one because I'm curious how this messy situation will turn out according to the writer

Kid was responsible the incident but Robo-arm guy after he got his new arms hunted Kid down and killed him. Don't know if he had feelings before he killed him but after he killed KID and got his conscious transfered to an android body he's developed an conflicting emotional attachment to him as and adroid and now their working together but even I don't know why or what the end goal for them is.
I have a feeling that the incident has much to it than that, was kid actually responsible or was he used as a scape goat by somebody, for the ex chief to hate the people behind the team so much
