"I am simply be a maiden"
Pffft-HAhahahaha
That typo on such an important line just cracked me up. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Sometimes she can be so innocent and oblivious that I can't even dealll. I know she looks like an elementary schooler, but she doesn't need to act like one!!ヽ(`Д´)ノ It's gotten a little old for me—especially her obliviousness towards Kou-kun. I cut Kou and Reina a lot of slack for their outbursts, because Hiyorin seriously cannot realize *anything* unless it's said completely outright.

I don't hate Hiyorin, but at this point I'm only reading to find out what will happen between Kou and Riichan.

I'm posting my review as a topic to give people the opportunity to vote down or respond, if they want. Mostly, I talked about problems I had with the storytelling, and I'd appreciate anyone's opinions and thoughts.
----

I personally don't like this manga. Most of the characters look very feminine (or straight up like women), and the story telling is awkward and confusing. The worst part, however, is that it's boring! The characters are glassy eyed and aloof—I guess they have feelings for eachother, but it's not convincing. All this terrible stuff happens, but the characters all have blank ass expressions throughout their hardships. It's hard to care, when the CHARACTERS don't even care! Seriously, though, incest, rape, and abuse are all used as plot points, but the drama is nearly non-existent. Incest, rape, and abuse all have the potential to be CREEPY AF, but in this porcelain doll world, they're not used effectively at all.

To compare, Pysche Delico's series "Tourou No Ori" has a lot in common with "Devil's Bride", like apathetic and wealhy characters, themes about incest and abuse, and violent families. However, "Tourou No Ori" is incredibly gripping, and even disturbingly chilling at times! "Tourou No Ori" is excellent, and when comparing it, the ineffective pacing of "Devil's Bride" becomes REAL apparent. If you like "Devil's Bride" that's perfectly fine, but the poor story telling make it absolutely impossible for me to recommend.

2/5 stars

[I've now read up to Chapter 17.]
P.S. the artwork can also be spotty. http://www.mangago.zone/home/photo/871748/ The illustrations are usually fairly pretty, but like what happened to that boy's head, neck and eyes??? such a mess >_>

Is Tourou No Ori a yaoi?

Is Tourou No Ori a yaoi? Mikasa

    Yes! :)

It's a twisted one though—not super romantic (at least not yet!).

He's my fave—tall, cool, and petty all at once, haha

Like every other manga ever, loud jerkish "only look at me" Suruga's gonna get the guy, but I really wish for once the rival would win ;_;

Agh, do you guy's ever hope for the rival to beat the dickish main love interest? It's usually even worse in Shoujo manga... Shoujo love interests do all sorts of fucked up shit in the first few chapters, but the female leads catch amnesia and they get away with it -_- (Suruga's CERTAINLY not that bad!)

P.S. Just to clarify, I don't think Suruga's a bad guy, I just like Masa better. I just sometimes get tired of love triangles in manga, where the rival has absolutely no chance. :¬(

Update: I just started reading Kare to kare no ijiwaru na kyori

like I'm literally 3 pages in, but I can already tell I'm going to like it more because of the characters, haha. I'm glad Sahara Masa is gonna get a lead role ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

haha Masa's great. Sorry for this pointless ramble then

I agree with you so much i can't count the amount of times i have dropped shoujo manga because of that reason its seriously annoying

A lot of people seem really confused by Chapter 8, so imma take a shot at explaining it:

In Chapter 8, there are two twin brothers. The older one is more charismatic and steals men from his gentle younger brother (and then the older brother throws them away later). While at work, the younger twin encounters a man in poor health who was hurt by his older brother. Under the (slightly facetious) pretense of healing the man, yung twin has sex with the guy. AT the end, The guy, charmed by the gentle sex, declares that health is the most important and that he will stay with the younger twin. The older brother believes the guy will come crawling back to him eventually, but I think the ending is supposed to be hopeful that yung twin and sick guy stay together.

If you have any unanswered questions, feel free to ask. I'll try my best!

That's what I thought happened, but I wasn't sure. It was kind of mild compared to the other stories. I expected it to be some incestuous thing at first.

Yeah, at first I thought the older brother was stealing the younger brother's partners, because he was obsessed with him. (Like Juuta in Hidoku Shinaide towards Maya and Akira). Instead, I now think the older brother is just kind of a sleazy ho, haha
