They are comics, the term are different based on their country of origin. Manhua are Chinese comics, manhwa are Korean comics and manga are Japanese comics.

When I was 11 I was obsessed with special a and things like that (light hearted shoujo kind of things) So I say go with that. If she wants a more shounen kinda thing then maybe mha or naruto. Also if she wants something long, Sailor moon might be pretty neat too
