some webtoon artists draw webtoons not only as a hobby but to sustain daily needs and pay bills. how do webtoon artists get paid? mainly through pageviews. if you are able, please support the artist!

go to the original site and click on all the unlocked chapters (1 chapter is unlocked every week, but this varies from webtoon to webtoon). just going to put it out there that a webtoon artist doesn't get paid in the same manner as a serialized mangaka does. webttons are comics that you read online (and are usually free). unlike mangas, which are printed publications. physical copies of an artist's work means people can buy them and it means the artist gets a royalty check.

if you are feeling generous, you can donate more money to the artist by unlocking the chapters early on for a (very, very, very) low price. 3 coins to be exact. 30 us cents can be converted to 1 coin. you can unlock the chapter for less than a dollar! thanks for reading upto this point :)

Contrary to what's being said below, Korean readers have the option to buy the chapters early on OR read for free just like English readers. They have to pay 3 coins to read a chapter or wait for it to be unlocked every week!

Also, Lezhin Comics expanded its services to include English speaking regions just recently (December 2015). Try not to rush them too much! They're doing their best to let their webtoon artists be known internationally :(

Hello. I just wanted to say that you cannot actually wait for the chapters to be unlocked for free for on the English site since they don't have the countdown in the top left corner next to the lock mark. I think you got confused because it says 'new every week' but that just means a new paid chapter comes out every week. Or I can be totally wrong but from what I've seen so far this seems to be the case.

Oh, you are right ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄ My bad, I didn't know because I've already unlocked the chapters >-< I'll let Lezhin know about that!

Thanks for asking but it does say 'depending on the webtoon'. Out of control did indeed have a system where one chapter was released for free every week but I believe it said clearly 'New free chapter every week' or something along those lines, and then this changed recently when they stopped releasing chapters for free. As I said I'm not entirely sure about this. I honestly hope that English readers do get the chance to read the chapters for free eventually but unfortunately, I think the possibility of this happening is quite low Σ(っ°Д °;)っ

Editing is a chore but so is scanning (good-quality raws), translating, proofreading, and quality-checking :3 The process may be long but we only want to give you guys high-quality scans!
