exhausting but fulfilling read, the type of story i will probably only read once in my life. two broken people in a masterfully written love story with lots of drama that kept me holding my breath and cursing in frustration. to me, the uke was unlikeable in the first season with a severe inferiority complex and excessive pride but i was pleasantly surprised by his character development in the middle of season two. the seme was a violent lover but also slowly learns to control his aggressive love. i love that they learn to communicate more towards the end and they acknowledge their mistakes and imperfections. it was worth the read and I'm looking forward to the side stories.
STORY SO FAR, if you want to binge only the latest arc, start with ch124 where shadow warriors was first introduced.
we are now in the empire special forces of magic (plus shadow warriors) vs serie's continental mage association featuring first class mages arc. motive is yet unknown but the empire is conspiring to assasinate serie in the grand ball during their national foundation festival. it's been established in earlier chapters of this arc that shadow warriors have been ordered by the empire to kill mages for a long time already (frieren is on their list) and not disclosing why.
it's been hinted that "kanone", the character with a long black ponytail from the special forces of magic, may be lineal, a first class mage undercover in the empire and was the one who reported the threat on serie's life. in chapter 131, she allows ubel and land to escape after getting captured.
the latest chapter (132) ends with most of the shadow warriors gathering, probably to have some sort of meeting to prepare for the assassination. frieren has also started making moves herself by imbuing magic/mana(?) on the coins she used to purchase from one of the shadow warriors (stall holder)
so far, on the empire side, we've been introduced to 10 shadow warriors (governor lowe, mercenary, barkeep, bar poster girl, sister, father, librarian, vagrant, stallholder, and blacksmith) and 4 special forces of magic (kanone, neu, weg, and captain phrase).
on serie's side, we have first class mages lineal undercover in the empire, frieren, fern, stark, sense, falsche, and ubel and land duo.
gluck, from the el dorado arc, denken's father in law and macht's master/partner in crime (my ship), makes an appearance as he was assumes he is to be executed for his crimes while governing weise. however, the empire orders him to go back immediately to weise where he will await his verdict and denken must also go back with him. gluck assumes this decision was made to remove denken from the imperial city due to some "political strife" (empire vs serie). he also mentions he's met phrase before and should have let macht kill her back then. (it's also established that land has encountered phrase in his childhood and that ubel bears the same likeness in power with phrase)
thus, denken is out of commission in this arc. which is fine since he's had a lot of screen time in el dorado. he's also in a weird position of being both an imperial mage for the empire and a first class mage of the continental mage association so both sides cannot trust him. however, he's leaning more on serie's side stating he "has no regrets being a first class mage". he also says he will "lay out the groundwork" before he leaves to weise with gluck which is probably related to his conversation with sense in this chapter.
there is speculation that the missing shadow warrior is the gorrilla warrior, sein's childhood friend so we might see him back in action?
