Hmm.. Tbh I don't know if this is entirely true, but from what I've read Eric took all the blame for what just happened, hence Shell shot Eric, making it look like the "enemy" was just "Defeated." But with Eric being gone, (I don't know if Eric just disappeared or died? It either wasn't clear, it either just didn't say it in the story, or I'm just dumb and missed it) And by "killing" Eric, that rule had disappeared? But with the rule disappearing Eric did too??? And, Shell starts talking about whether another "option" could come across them, and being able to see Eric again. Ending the page with "Not in the end, But beyond that..." Which I'm guessing, not just by seeing the two and dying, but being together in the real world, but once dying being with eachother in the after life?

Eric is alive and well in the south. Reign asking Shell if he's visiting the south and he's running out of raw material for the perfume they are distributing to the human is a proof of that.
The society has change since Shell became the blood lord, with human being living among the vampires with jobs and education. With this new "option" / way of living, maybe when the ice age come to an end the vampire will not be force to extinct but will be able to live peacefully with human being. That is why Shell said " Not in the end, but beyond that "
