I really recommend the Genki books for learning basic japanese. After you've gone through the 2 books you 'd learned basic japanese grammar, hiragana, katakana and about 300 kanji. I currently live in japan and study japanese at a language school and we had those books in the beginning. I'm studying so i can take the JLPT N3 next year without it be......   1 reply

Canadian so 10 years deep, don't really recommend but if it's worth it for you, then go for it. It does not sound romantic whatsoever.
