The guy happened to find the card in his jacket pocket and decided to see if it was real. Coincidentally, the MC was waiting on the ML, and he did realize it wasn’t the ML almost immediately, but he didn’t stop it. It’s a type of self-loathing, and the ML came and saw the MC. It's an interesting relationship. I think Yuu would actually prefer for Kou and Ginga to have feelings for each other too which (SPOILER ALERT) it shows they do in the sequel. It truly is a poly relationship but with certain preferences. Mainly the two alphas putting Yuu first before each other and it works well for the three.
