I can’t speak for the character but, as someone who is trans, it feel that they aren’t gay but instead a trans woman. They say they wanted to be a girl and a “princess” and that they were uncomfortable with their male body when they started puberty. I’m not saying it’s 100% as everyone experiences gender differently but it certainly seems that they are just assuming they are gay based on the lack of real representation and acceptance of trans people in Japan.
