he was manipulative from the beginning so this disgusting persuasion doesn't surprise me... a little disappointed tho... is he not gonna have a character development arc or is he gonna stay a manipulative asshole till the end? i'd like to know what i'm getting into...

if i had to deal with improv on stage, i'd bawl right there! actually, no, i'd probably freeze, start trembling in my jaws and limbs and have my body do a force reboot (faint and convulse until conscious again)

I tried searching for a japanese proverb with 親 (oya, parents) and what i think is 立場(tachiba, standing) and one did come up, which I assume is the original dialogue used here.

立っている者は親でも使え 'Tatteiru mono wa oya demo tsukae'

Literally, it can be translated as 'use anyone that is standing, even if it's your parents' and even from the literal context, you can kinda infer the meaning. Basically, you should use anything that is available when you are in need.

The closest thing you can find in english is "All hands on deck", although it doesn't really convey the desperation of being in need.

sounds morally grey but ig desperation can do that to someone... anyway, that was informative! thank you for lmk!!

It basically means what’s ur status in society. Many novels/tv shows use this phrase for when a rich person looks down on a poor person. It also referred to the family status, like if ur parents, grandparents, great grandparents or even ancestors achieved something for them to reach a great status, for example being awarded highest achievement and medals in the military, or being the founder of something big.
