One thing I noticed in both this and The Dangerous Convenience Store; this author is terrible at slow burn. Slow burn is NOT when one character catches feelings less than 10 chapters in and then profusely denies those feelings for another unnecessary 30+ chapters before admitting to them in a very underwhelming way with a lot of unnecessary waffling and crying, which is what they did with TDCS and the direction I feel this is also heading in. The dialogue also seems to ignore the concept of less is more; they only met a few days ago but are baring their souls to each other, and not in an articulate way either. Manhwas like this are light reads that intended to and tried too hard to be heavy (MCs backstory makes me nervous that they'll fudge a good character and make him an unappealing coward who does too much and also nothing at the same time). I'll stick it out for now but minimal investment ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

did they say that this manhwa was a slow burn? if not your comment was pointless. sorry if this came off as rude

    Wanna be smart eh?

    Barracuda March 7, 2025 9:16 pm

It's implied it's a slow burn by how long it takes for them to get to a relationship. It's generous to call whatever the hell happened in TDCS as slow burn but the intention is clear. It doesn't always need to be explicitly stated. I'm sure you can infer

I understand what you’re saying, but the author never said that this is a slow burn (=・ω・=)

You know, author's don't need to spoon feed their readers what they intended to show through their story, it can be but that's also a readers job.

It might turn out like this but I think it‘s still too early to tell. As for now I think it’s very interesting and I‘m excited to see how the story will unfold and in which direction the characters will develop

well, actually they didn't meet a few days ago. they don't usually say how many days it's been, but even in the 2nd chapter when he was sleeping on the couch and woke up on top of guwon with a knife, we all thought it was THE SAME DAY he went to sleep.. when in reality 2 days have passed as guwon told him. SO, i'm not making a wild guess here, but it's been definitely been a few weeks. In a place where they meet each other every day and have no distractions like phones or stuff like that, they're bound to know each other better. so i can't really agree with you on this.

Just wondering but was this story supposed to be slow burn? As in did the author intended or declared it to be slow burn

    Barracuda March 7, 2025 9:11 pm

They don't need to declare it. It's implied that theyre trying to steer it in that direction by how much the Mc is in deep ass denial of his feelings 24/7. Slow burn is a lot of chapters of build up before a proper relationship, which is what happens in their manhwas but the way it's executed is tiring and listless.

    I think you are over generalizing your opinion kinda, it doesn’t really make sense to criticize something which isn’t there. I don’t mean to sound rude btw haha;;

I get that you think that it’s being implied to be slowburn, but characters being in deep denial isn’t a core part of that genre as well or a trademark for it.
It’s them very slowly but gradually developing feelings - this MC here probably fell at first sight.

And I also don’t agree that there is a lot of build up. Both DCS and THOS are quiet fast paced, but this is just my opinion(!!). Since both pairings were immediately attracted to each other.

Saying that there are a lot of chapters building up and this being „badly executed slow burn“ is a little contrary towards each other … but again, this was never slow burn to begin with I think. Again, no meaning to sound rude, just sharing my thoughts over your comment!

he realised his feeling sooner than in other manhwas i read. also i don't see him being super annoying. he's actually trying to understand what his feeling are as he never felt this way about another man. if they had their hug on saturday when he realized his heart was going wild, then it means that he only had a few days of agonizing about it until monday night when he met him again and understood his feelings were neither respect nor admiration. honestly, i don't think see him being denying his own feelings.

i never liked a girl this way in my life, so i can understand that if i suddenly start having feelings abt a girl (at my age, being straight my whole life, as we can assume abt him) i would definitely try to make it make sense as he did.

i don't know if what i'm saying makes sense, but i definitely don't agree with you babe.

Didn't like it at all. Uke was weak and indecisive, seme just got on my nerves and seemed to be talking to himself the entire time. Neither of them seem assured in the relationship even after 100 chapters. Time skip was wholly unnecessary and the cheating ruined the atmosphere of the whole story. Also the character design in season 2 missed entirely (why were their faces so long). I'm all for a wholesome read but this had too much unnecessary fumbling on the uke's part, a clumsy gangster plot and character design. SEME HAD NO PERSONALITY. ヽ(`Д´)ノ

Maybe it's js me but I liked a lot, the mc was going through so much, of course he isn't in the right state of mind. Also I think the ml is hilarious as fuck, I think the way he speaks is what makes him charming. I think the timeskip was great since in the beginning of the story the ml said that he would've to wait 3 years for him, and he actually did! I don't really see anything wrong with the faces, even if yeah it can be a bit funky at time. Of course for the cheating part I wasn't the biggest fan but seeing the situation overall it was not bad. It's not as if mc was cheating with malicious intents anyways. I always read it again when I'm bored, and it never fails to make me laugh a lot. There are a few flaws but overall I think it's a great story

    Barracuda January 24, 2025 7:53 pm

Maybe if I read this 5 years ago I would have loved it too but now I'm not all that optimistic that I could let such obvious flaws go over my head, just to see value that isn't there. It's one of those relationships you feel wouldn't last outside the story #-.-)

I agree wholeheartedly like this was so cute and sweet especially the fact that he actually waited 3 years for him. And as far as the cheating part goes the boyfriend cheated on him first according to his friend. No I know that doesn't make it okay but it definitely does give him room for leeway

Would've given 5 stars if they'd gotten married. Only manhwa to ever bring me to tears. Heechan's pain was fleshed out so well I could sympathize.
