Really interesting so far but one thing I don’t get is if they knew she was ranked 1 in artistic ability why not profit off that? Why use her as a hoodlum for beating up people in what seems to be some mafia gang? Her ability isn’t 1st in physical. Doesn’t make sense to me.
Also, and this is something that personally rankles me as it hits a sore spot. As someone who went to art school with a whole bunch of really talented people, the truth is it isn’t so much talent as those super good people had been drawing for almost their whole lives. Even the most talented ones who catch on quick in just months were already drawing day and night. And the younger you are the more people will be wowed by your skills. The older you get the more you will be compared to more talented people who already are years ahead of you if you haven’t put time into skill, no matter how good that talent is. Talent rusts if unused. Most of the best artists I met got there through sheer hard work.
So, unfortunately there’s no way daejeong would be that amazing compared to other artists her age if she spent her years forced to punch people instead of draw, while in the meantime anyone like eunjeong (if belonging in top 30th percentile or rank6 which is still leagues above the average person) would be ahead of her by now. It is sadly what would happen in real life but this is a comic, so I guess plot armour wins.
What I’m trying to say is the plot is pretty idealistic despite the dark setting, hence it comes across as a little disappointing or unrelatable. Reason why this annoys me a bit is cause it looks like the author wanted to go for a ‘talent is everything’ theme, but it’s really frustrating when art is really more about hard work, contrary to common belief.
Still a good read though, as an underdog possibly revenge story.
