Realistic and solemn, FL has her eye on the actual prize
Characters are deeply complex and their POVs flesh the story out
You sympathise with and understand each character's actions
The plot is truly twisted, all the MLs are sick in the head (esp the priest)
Romance is bland in this story, but it's mostly a subplot
