After the empress died (they had confessed to each other before that), the emperor kept blaming himself because he left her to go see lady Lyn when she had asked him to stay with her because she felt like something bad was gonna happen.
And so he became a tyrant and gave out harsh punishments to everyone involved in the empress' assassination. He also kept her palace the way it was.
Alsooooooo, when the empress died she returned to her "original" body I think and disguises herself as a male escort and enters the palace 2 years later. She sees how much her death traumatized the emperor and decides to protect him or something.
