Really sorry, I know that she is innocent pure and all, that she knows nothing but please Jeannette STOP, he is not your dad.

This annoys me so much, and even in the original story, I hate the fact that she did nothing To help Athy. She saw that she was alone, and not well treated by her father but she just ignored it ! She just cried in her fiancee's arm and continued her life when athy died. Even the fact that Claude was tired, and sick because of black magic, she just said "I am here" without searching the truth about her "father" and Why he was feeling so bad everytime. I find her quite insensitive, as if she decides not to see the disturbing things that would hurt her. I understand she wants To have time with her "father", but I dont know, she is just irritating (and at the same time I'm feeling a bit guilty to say that about a character who did not really do anything wrong ╥﹏)

It's not that I hate her, she is just too pure, and blind to everything and I would like her to start thinking about Athy's feelings when she clearly sees that Claude and her have problems together and that she just decides to have time with him when she is absent.

Ah, I Feel calmer now and what I wrote does not make any sense, but this character is really difficult to describe in my opinion, not trully bad, but also too much in her own world to make me like her.

Sorry for my english, I am clearly not bilingual (▰˘◡˘▰)

I’m starting to think that people don’t necessarily hate Jeanette per se but maybe hate the way she’s been written? Idk if that makes sense but lemme try. I mean, during the 20-goddamned-chapters where she was featured, there must have been a way for her to be likable instead of y’know, being just there. Yes, she helped Athy have a place to stay and yes, she helped Athy return to the castle, but those things happened at the beginning and end of that arc. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember anything significant happening in the middle of that arc that would have pushed towards Athy’s reunion with Claude. All there was during those chapters was either angst or lull. Then suddenly, we’re back to the main plot again. And idk, did anyone else notice when Jeanette helped Athy return to the palace and when Lucas appeared, it almost seemed forced? It was as if something pushed the author to finally move the plot forward. (It might have been because of the negative/hostile feedback from PAYING readers.) There was, I guess, a lack of buildup? Which is why we scorn those chapters so much. Jeanette’s filler chapters could have been used to maybe show her trying to help Athy and Claude little by little. Doing that would have made her likable without overshadowing the actual main character. Instead, it was just months and months of having Jeanette shoved into our faces without any progress to the story. It was honestly a waste. The filler chapters really ended up just like that—filler.

If the excuse is because this was based on a novel and giving Jeanette more substance would change it too much, well...didn’t that happen already? It already strayed from the original novel. Even Athy and Claude are different now. (I also have my gripes about the way Athy’s been written in the comic but maybe next time.) The excuse that Jeanette is like this because she's being manipulated is valid, but I feel like this also could have been done better.

OR maybe it was intentional. Maybe there would be a twist later where Jeanette’s arc and unknowingly selfish actions would be relevant. Maybe Jeanette got so much exposure to make us feel frustrated about a "main" character that exists to be loved even without doing anything. Maybe it's THAT meta. I'm trying to think this way to give the author the benefit of the doubt but tbh, every update just makes me sad. :(

Tldr: Part of our hate towards Jeanette is because of our frustration that she could have been written to be more than just an irritatingly naive character.

PS. There was also that strange part where Jeanette suddenly kinda turned yandere so I DON’T KNOW what the hell was up with that. Her character confuses the shit out of me.

I see a lot of commenters hating Jeannette and being confused at the same time as to why. She is portrayed as being kind and smiley so it trips people up. The issue with Jeannette is that she’s kind in the most shallow way. She lacks real empathy, compassion and is overall extremely callous. She’s never shocked about what happened between Athanasia and Claude. There is not one instance where she actively thinks about MC’s pain. She’s portrayed like she cares about both of them and wants to play family, yet her caution with Claude had never anything to do with knowing that he chased MC out of the palace. She even witnessed their close bond at that ball. Yet she’s never put out by Claude’s behavior in this regard. She wants a daddy and is probably subconsciously happy that Athy is out of the way, so she can interlope. Of course this is all pushed by her caregiver but she couldn’t be more pleased it seems. I wonder if this was the author’s intention and if it will be brought up that the heroine of the novel has actually character traits that align more with an oblivious villain. What would happen if she notices that Claude cares more about MC even after pushing herself between them?

Man, in the first place, I stuck to this story like a glue was because of Athy and her budding relationship with her father. Jeanette was someone I was tolerating whenever she was present. Sure she's a cute kid but I've already seen too many white lotus MCs that honestly, Jeanette's naive and innocent personality trait doesn't endear me one bit.

The moment this story decided to throw off to the void the main reason why many people loved this webtoon was the moment people started hating on Jeanette.

Yes that hate is unreasonable but because Jeanette basically represent a wall preventing Athy and Claude to become family again is why so many of us just wants her gone. As in, completely wiped from the story because she offers nothing but unecassary drama with just her very existence.

People might say--"oh but Jeanette is spicing up this story! Stop hating on her" Sure, tell that to thousands of readers who literally wants her offed. We used to tolerate Jeanette, some might've even liked her. But because of this mini plot, that tolerance is completely gone.

Ok so I know everything about jeanette, and bout how she really isn’t bad, but shes a fucking door mat.... I can’t help but dislike her yk? She really isn’t helping anything, and she doesn’t know how to read the room!!!! She also tries wayyyy too hard. Like athanaisa tried finding different ways to stay alive. Jeanette constantly acts the same way, despite anything that happens! It pisses me off!!!! Shes so naive. It kinda puts the story off. Like if you think about it *spoilers* all the conflicts are her fault due to how naive she is. Its off putting, and I feel like the only reason she exists is to create conflicts when she doesn’t mean to. And like if she finds out, imagine how shes gonna act. Like shes gonna run away and hide. Forcing the others to chase after her. For *her* problem. But this is how I see her. Sure there are good things about her, but im pinpointing all her flaws which are the reason why I don’t like her.

Shit this is really long, but I believe in it

I dont understand why everyone still ‘feels bad’ for the ML because ‘he didnt do bad enough’. So let me break it up to you rn.

Anyone who pushes a depressed person to suicide deserves this. In irl, anyone who does that immediately is shunned, or even worse get thrown to the jail. He got off really easy all because he’s rich. I would have assumed he was disowned by the family but he still has enough money to travel around the world to find ‘Su Luxia’ and even has a house despite not being affiliated with his family anymore. No. He deserves this. Just like what our MC said, if only he rejected her earlier and not told her to JUMP THE BUILDING because he didnt care about her, Su Luxia wouldn’t be bullied so much she killed herself.

I stand on people who is being bullied and depressed because of this. I do not condone it. He didnt ‘do bad’ because he didnt want to include himself. That on its own is a different abuse. When you know someone is being bullied, you dont stand there and watch. You get on and helped that guy. Not watch in the sidelines. It just shows who are the sheeps in this community. Bullies get their egos when no one stops them. The ML on the other hand didnt ‘bully’ Su Luxia but he led her on to think that he ‘cared’ before dropping the hammer and told her to kill herself (WHO FUCKING DOES THAT?!!!). Everyone here seemed to forget WHO delivered the final push to Su Luxia to killing herself! The nerve of you to feel bad for him just because HE DIDNT DO BAD ENOUGH! He got his ego inflated by seeing these girls fight for him because of his looks and money. He is egotistical and he deserve so much more bad karma his way. He doesnt even deserve pity at this point!

I’m most likely gonna get flamed on this one but im here to voice out my opinion. Bullying someone and neglecting people who asked for your help is a no-no in my book. Glorifying this ML because he didnt do anything is disgusting. The fact that he didnt do anything makes him deserving of his fate right now. Also, let me put it on that he ‘loved’ our MC not the original meek and shy and cowardly Su Luxia. Only reason he loved ‘Su Luxia’ is because she ‘changed’. That meant our MC took over and thats what he ‘loved’. Let that sink in. Thank you for taking your time to reading this.

Sometimes people can be very unforgiving for people who are still building themselves. People seem to always dichotomize people as a failure or a success, but no one seems to be interested in the process of the "becoming."

At this point of the story, just a couple of chapters in and with the timeline explicitly showing that it's only been a couple of days, do you all really expect that she'd suddenly just develop this whole bad-ass character after the public shaming she went through from various social institutions including her family? It would take a breakthrough or two for her to even speak up for herself because that's how people healing naturally go through.

Realize that she has been emotionally and mentally manipulated and abused to think the way that she thinks and for some, it would take a lifetime of unlearning. I hope you realize why this story was created to begin with, it tackles how girls are socialized to stay quiet and lower their presence. It shows how the FL goes through a certain conscientization after years of being encaged in a tiny box.

And if you're not about such character development then be my guess and leave. People are so forgiving in shounen mangas when ML would take their time to develop and experience more than a hundred trials before gaining a breakthrough but FL who don't try and FL who try, be damned.

Honestly, at this point in the story, it requires patience and understanding to see development. Granted if the FL still doesn't act after 20 or so chapters, then voice out your grievances, but this early in? Please.

This is not to attack anyone but to make people realize that we should be encouraging authors in a positive manner rather than just demanding yields y'all never even sew.

THIS IS REALITY. This is by far the most realistic manga i’ve read about the uke being rape and Not be like « awnn i’ve been raped and oops i fall in love with my agressor » bullshit that some yaoi loves to portrait. I dropped at vol 7 because it’s unbearable to see the mc’s mind being shattered more and more Even after his agressor’s death , the memories are still fresh. Plus, I don’t want Ian and Jeremy beings lovers just brothers will do.

As hard as it might be to belive, children are quite sensitive- especially in their development stages. As a growing teen Jeanette should be becoming more aware of the emotions and feelings of those around her. Ejikiel (I think that's his name?) is very aware and sensitive towards every one's feelings around him, despite being two years older. They lived in the same roof and were brought up similarly enough that if she wanted to Jeanette could've learnt something form him but instead she allowed herself to be coddled until she struggled to be her own person. As nice as she is Jeanette has no other reedeming quality other than her kindness. She's oblivious, far too trusting, selfish, unable to think for herself and weak willed- at this point she's more of a deadweight than anything. Jeanette's nativity is the product of her own close mindedness. She is aware of the reason for her isolation, and believe it or not is quite okay with it. She's been conditioned to believe that its for her own good so she can end up with her father. As long as any action done gets her close to her dad she is willing to endure. That isn't a child that's been mistreated but instead a child who has been filled with unchecked ambition. She's so wrapped up in the fantasy of reuniting with her dad that she's thrown all logic away. If her father loved her, why did he never search for her? Why did she have to hide who she was up till now? How come her mother ran away form him? A little bit of thought would've given her the thought/idea that her 'father' didn't care and still doesn't care for her, it would've allowed her to question things and those around her- maybe even spur her to investigate. If my long lost father called me up for tea yet always fell asleep before we uttered a single word then that's not a win for me. I'd feel awkward and like I've been dusted aside. The answers that I'm looking for as well as the questions I want to ask are being pushed aside. She also has a brotherly figure who showers her with love and a caretaker that provides for her and cares for her even without her best intentions in life. Jeanette may have grown up without her parents and a shitty 'father' figure but she certainly wasn't lacking in love- chasing after a father who seemingly abandoned her when there are others willing to love her just as much casts her in a negative light for me. Also, Jeanette is NOT a child, maybe by law, but not in terms of mentality, emotions and physical body. She has passed the point where she can now tell right from wrong, the point where she can tell when someone is in pain or full of joy without them having to say so verbally. Her extremely low EQ is so annoying because it's the only excuse she can come up with for her ignorant and selfish behaviour. I don’t need to be a genius to be able to tell when my friend is feeling uncomfortable- in fact most children can tell. You can say that Jeanette might be a special case but there’s a level of oblivious you can be before you just come off as willingly ignorant. The whole premise for me hate towards Jeanette is due to her inconsiderate nature towards Athy’s feelings. Its the fact that she’s creating a paradox on herself. She sees Athy as her sister and her family and yet not once has she asked to see how she’s fairing, instead she’s happy to have her fathers love and attention while just having her ‘sister’ there is good enough to fulfil her image of a happy family. You can’t argue that at 14 you aren’t able to tell when someone is upset or in emotional pain? It’s not like Athy is even trying to hide her feelings. We can't sympathise with her bacuse in our eyes she's being extremely greedy and naive, she willing turns her head the other way when Athy feels down when her dad is brought up and pls let's be real. No true friend would purposely talk about the person hurting you as he spoils another- no matter how low ur EQ is, that's just not ok. Jeanette is disliked because she's shown characteristics of a person who prefers to live in her own perfect bubble instead of facing reality.

The problem of rape in fiction isn’t rape itself, it’s the romantization and naturalization it often comes with. It’s okay to have rape as long as the character who was raped suffer from all the trauma it causes. But it’s not okay if the rape ends up being their close up event and makes them fall for each other and live happy ever after. An......

As a queer person and rape victim, it really doesn't surprise me how often rape shows up in yaoi. I've been reading it for years now and it still disgusts me.
