I started reading thinking this like yaoi, but is that really yaoi? I'm confusing

No, the relationships between the two main characters isn't considered yaoi, but rather just good friends, which frustrates me. But in the main page where they show all the chapters there's a tag called genres and in that list is school life and slice of life but no yaoi. Or rather no yaoi has been confirmed. Hope this helped?

Why would anyone hate it? GLAAD loves it, Human Rights Campaign loves it, Queer advocacy groups love it, Olympic skaters (gay/straight/bi) love it.
Was it the failure of expectation? They wanted more confirmation of a canon gay love story? Like more than just one kiss or the rings?
Man, us Hannibal fans didn't even get a freaking kiss. Just them tumbling off the cliff into the waters and a cancellation.

(Im a hannibal fan, too (▰˘◡˘▰) I'll never lose hope for a new season tho)
Personally loved yoi, but for some reason all the trans people I know really hated it... Probably because it's really idealistic? But with all the tragic movies of gay people dying before fulfilling their love honestly it's a breather lmao
this story keeps surprising me
