The ML is a walking talking red flag, though. Whether he slept with MC's friend or not (if author decides to reveal that there is some misunderstanding later on), he is asking for commitment from MC to not sleep with anyone else and to date him but he uses the same words he used with MC's dead friend and also even if by some miraculous plot twist it is revealed that he never had any relationship with MC's friend, the fact that he didn't explain it to MC is a major red flag. It's clear he lusts after MC but nothing more. This is weird and his motivations seem sinister

The way Shin doesn't want to betray Jake despite his life being in danger is super sexy. Realistically, yes, in those situations even if you say the truth it does not guarantee that the asshole guy with a gun is going to let you go but it's human nature to scramble for any excuse or appeasement to get out of the situation and more often than not, the person would throw someone else under the bus to save themself.
