Basically, the purpose of the system was to slowly change Jin Woo's body to accomodate Osbourne, the previous Shadow Sovereign. As Osbourne's power were too intense, he had trouble looking for a suitable vessel thus, he solicited the help of the Architect of the System. Osbourne promised a reward to the Architect upon completion (i think the reward was making the Architect a Sovereign as well, i forgot). Jin Woo, an E-Ranked Hunter always tethering the boundaries of life and death then caught the Shadow Sovereign's attention and was chosen during the Double Dungeon Incident. However, Osbourne took a liking to Jin Woo's spirit and tenacity. Osbourne would then descend in the next few chapters, meeting the requirements for the [Title: Demon Slayer] and activate "Black Heart". Contrary to the Architect's belief, Osbourne didn't take over Jin Woo's body. However, Jin Woo was still granted the full effects of "Black Heart" which increases Jin Woo's mana by 100,000.

In a nutshell, Osbourne betrayed the Architect. :)
