well to be fair and square their first meeting happened when they were both of similar age through alois' wish and the older ver. told younger ver. duke to find alois to know the happiness that he's feeling rn, so he did and saw it was a child so he let alois be, sent him to study and what not. then alois came back to work for the duke, as an adult, and he started trying to win over the duke with his feelings. where's the pedophilia here?
duke did not fall for the child but the one he met through the wish, an adult. and because he didn't want to lock up alois and keep him for himself(which would have made him a pedophile) he just let him, raised him and stuff without any romantic feelings, for THE KID but the adult alois he had met.

They’re bound to meet and save each other anyway so I don’t really know why that much drawing is wasted on that side story; it would’ve been way better to leave the interpretation to the readers after the conversation between the present and past duke. Ik the author was trying to make it a fluffy and moe BL (cutesy art, healing genre, characters with a bit of sad backstory) which is why there are reasons why there’s so much criticism on the ending alone. It’s not hating. Those people liked it before….. well.
