Am I the only one who feels like they’re downplaying everything the ML did? Like I get that it wasn’t his fault what happened to her mom and he was also abused. BUT what IS his fault is him forcing the FL to marry him when she clearly hated him at the time. If she hated him so much it doesn’t take much brain power to conclude she wouldn’t want to sleep with him, so how do we think she had a child? Sure, it probably was something like oh we need to spend a night together to consummate the marriage, but imagine how terrible that was for her. Being with the man you associate with your mother’s death. When you look at it from that perspective, it’s not crazy that she felt animosity towards her child. Ofc it’s not the child’s fault, but she was forced to have him with a man she despised. Pretty messed up if you think about it.
This chapter not only reminded me how much I hate Derrick, but also how responsible the duke is as well. I know he’s getting his redemption ark or whatever, but he still adopted a child and then proceeded to neglect and look down upon her. Penelope may forgive him, but I won’t forget it.

I mean he’s been taking care of Phi since he was 13!! Wouldn’t he be happy for him to fall in love? I mean it’s not like he would’ve been a bird forever (granted his birdship would be ending earlier than expected). For Phi to finally live outside of being a bird. He’s been caring for him since he was a child, I’d hope he’d actually want to see him grow and find his own happiness.
