The intention was to get MC and have sole authoritative control over him, and the method used was severe assault, kidnapping and imprisonment.

It probably wasnt even toxic. Mc probably was hot and cold with the red head, until redhead decided to start to let go of his feelings and became jaded. And mc is like boohoo, as if he doesn't push people away on the regular.
