What happened to Xiao Zhan was so unfortunate and an unwarranted, with all honesty, I am not a fan of shipping real people or writing about them in a sexual way, but I also am aware internet works as an ecosystem, you can't just lash out like that and want to start a war over something that at the end of the day, does not concern you.
I feel like both parts involved the anti and the shippers where wrong
The antis for putting ao3 on China's censor and the shippers and chinese ao3 contributors for attacking Xiao Zhan to get back at the antis

I believe we can be vocal about discouraging writing sexually about real people, but the way it was done was a missed, also, the fact that the very same people that started all of it secretly wright yourname smut with Xiao Zhan.... yeah... I can tell where their priorities lied in.
As someone who grew up reading a lot of fanfiction I know that real person fics are weird af but that's not the only tipe of fanfic and they put the whole site down so I guess they shoot themselves in the foot too unless they have other fanfic forums to share these self inserts x actor fics

Pls this just made me remember bad memories, I became a fan of Xiao Zhan in early 2020 so I witnessed this whole thing going down from the beginning to end, how the topic was first brought up, how it blew up and caused ao3 to get banned, how Zhan had to deal with all the backlash, how he lost multiple works due to it, how he had to lay low for a long time to make sure the situation won’t get any worse, how it affected his and Yibo’s relationship, and finally when it all cooled down. I cried alot during that time, I prayed that he’d be ok, I browsed the internet for news everyday, damn. Even though its been months since that incident happened, it still stresses me every time people mention it :’)
