can someone pls recommend me a manga like this coz I've had enough of toxic relationships in yaoi T^T
Eigyou Nika!
Chotto Matte yo Hanaya-san
Friend Line
Darlin', Iikagen ni Shiya Gare
Jackass! - Sawatte Ii tte Dare ga Itta yo? (It becomes unhealthy for a while but in not in the usual yaoi way and they work it out eventually. Also, there's an out-and-proud side character and another who overcomes his internalized homophobia.)
Vanilla Resort
Omae wa Hitsuji
Also, be sure to read XXX Allergy and Secret XXX if you haven't. Therapy Game is a spin-off of that manga.
Here's some others:
Neon Sign Amber
Wakabaryou de, Kimi to
Joou to Shitateya
Goshujinsama wa Ouji ga o Suki
Kyouju to Shitsuji no Shizuka na Seikatsu
Labradorescence
Akai Ito No Shikkou Yuuyo
Korotto Ochita?
Hana no Mizo Shiru
Seventeen Maple
Fukigen na Kimi to Kimagure na Kiss (Ignore the initial scene where they almost have sex for the first time while drunk and the seme is aggressive. He behaved OOC due to the alcohol and it never happens again. They care about and respect each other, and when they do have sex there is affirmative consent and one enthusiastic uke.)
Also, "FAKE" and "Yellow" both have some of the traditional yaoi problems like forced kisses and an endlessly flirty seme who randomly pushes down the uke after being rebuffed, but other than that the relationships are healthy, it becomes very mutual eventually and the stories are really good. For an OG yaoi FAKE is absolutely one of the best. A significant part of the plot is about the cases they deal with as cops in NYC. It's interesting and well-written. Yellow also has a really good and suspenseful plot and mystery. Beautiful artwork. It's my favorite pre-2010s yaoi manga.
If you have any recs please share too!
I feel you! For some reason the last year I struggle to find something to read that is not entirely based on BDSM, blackmailing, rape, cheating or meaningless sex ;( At some point I decided to start rereading the old good ones that were based on misunderstandings, struggles and difficulties meanwhile developing the character of the personages and deepening their feeling until they reach their happy ending...
Happy to help! I had started re-reading old ones too but now I've been finding more new ones. I just read these in the past week:
- Merry Checker
- Hello Green Days (Just two cinnamon rolls and their plants.)
- I Seriously Can't Believe You
- Hana no Mizo Shiru
- Koi ni wa Mukanai Shokugyou (Artwork is sooo gorgeous. Unfortunately I wouldn't put the sequel "Himitsu Niwa Mukanai Syokugyou" in the healthy relationships list which makes me sad. It's still worth reading if you enjoy the first one.)
- Suki ni Nattara Dame desu ka? (This might be considered a spoiler so skip if you hate them: I love these type of angsty, mutual pining slow burns - well, as slow as you can get in 1 volume - that have really happy endings. Mangaka are usually not very good at this genre IMO. Manga like this one, Therapy Game, Jackass! and Yellow are exceptions.)
Don't be nervous about sharing recs. It's just to help people discover new stuff. If I don't like something you shared I'm not going to be like, "how dare you not read my mind and know exactly what I want to read!" (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸
If you're not comfortable doing it though that's alright.
I really really really do appreciate your recommendations and yeah I finished what you have listed (merry checker etc.)
The problem is that, even though I have finished many manga, I don't seem to remember each one of them, even if I created a list on my phone (currently listed 900+ of them). It was late when I realized to mark my favorites so maybe the ones I liked would be known to you as well.
so I'll just list here what I have in my tiny list of favorites
-See you later, mermaid
-Otoko Yamome Mo Hana ha Saku
-MODS
-Suki Nante Iwantoite
-Rumspringa no Joukei
-Yoidore koi o sezu
-Hitori to hitori no 3650nichi (I loved the artstyle of this one)
-Gelateria Supernova
-Hanakoi Tsurane (on-going but I love their theme which is kabuki)
-Come to Hand
-Shinigami wa Korosenai (I love the seme)
-Torokeru tamago to bed no naka de(because of their long term relationship and the story feels fluffy for me)
That's all.. I tried to filter them out (*´︶`*)
Most of those are new to me, thank you! Also, you've probably read this one but possibly not because I just read it for the first time too: Star x Fanboy. I missed it all this time because I stopped reading Manhua/Manhwa after I looked at some and each one was the most toxic and abusive shit portrayed as love that I've ever seen in my life, but unlike most manga with similar themes they were really highly rated and did not have tags that revealed the truth. I need to know beforehand if it's going to be like that so I can avoid it if I'm already feeling really shitty.
damn I need answers if only we could ╥﹏╥
