Tbh ...... I'm getting a little annoyed with the storyline at this point..... Like what the hell happened to the main story line? Is this a side quest I'm reading?..... From what I'm seeing the FL might end up forgiving that shithead Khalid and tbh I came here for the revenge....
So I searched for spoilers and

So somehow Khalid ends up finding out lady ayidin is Estelle so Khalid ends up explaining why he killed her...... So he says the war at that time wasn't going well for their country and it started becoming obvious that they would lose ..... So seeing as how Estelle was so determined to push through it all , Khalid feared that their loss would trample Estelle's pride ,good lord
