If anyone has read/watched it, Ouran Highschool Host Club has a similar thing going. Tamaki, due to his traumas and issues, spent a good chunk of the story seeing his feelings towards Haruhi as those of a father and not of a crush. So he had these conflicting feelings about seeing himself as a father figure to Haruhi, but actually developing romantic feelings. That's what's going on in the story, Suzu initially saw his brother through Hana, but as they have spent time together, Suzu is starting to see Hana as an individual. Now he's stuck between "he reminds me of my brother" and "my heart begins to race when I see Hana". It's not that Hana is the brother or that Suzu loves his brother romantically, but that he's starting to develop feelings for a person he only used to see as a reflection of his beloved brother.

Not to insult anyone (for real) but although Mi-Ok is misguided, she is not just being nosy for no reason. This story is set in RURAL South Korea, somewhere even farther away from the more progressive views of big urban cities. Too many people are applying their own views on the matter - "Why does it matter?! It isn't hurting anyone! It's none of her business!" But that's not Mi-Ok's or, at a larger scale, SK society's view. They don't see a gay relationship as normal, especially in highly rural areas. Will this story make the villagers raging homophobes? Most likely not, but the fear is real. It is ingrained in some societies that anything apart from the "norm" is to be rejected, which is one of the worst forms of punishments for many. If you're cut off from society, who will have your back? Who can guide you? Who can provide services? Who can you work alongside? Humans are social creatures, isolation from the group can be mentally and physically exhausting. For Mi-Ok, just feeling ousted for being an abandoned child is enough to send her down a spiral - especially as young college student living in a big city without a support system - and while she's wrong about abnormalities in society, she has a point in asking about the validity of their relationship where they live. If she feels ousted due to her smaller situation, how will a gay couple raising a child feel? In a rural community, the help and support provided by everyone is valuable and being ousted of that community is harsh. Aside from possibly being scorned at, harassed, or bullied, they'll be on their own for the rest of time - and while Sung-Ho still has the ability to live elsewhere due to his military background and language skills, will Kwon be able to bear it? Having been taking care of the community basically his entire life, will he be able to stand being isolated? Will he be willing to leave it behind for acceptance and support? Would he even want that? Again, Mi-Ok isn't right, but she's not being "nosy just to be nosy", she seems genuinely worried about someone who is valuable to the community and is like an older brother to her. Not to mention, this isn't the first time this topic has been brought up. At the end of season 1, Sung-Ho's friend from America literally says the quiet part aloud and Sung-Ho sort of agrees.

Friend: "To be honest. I don't think Korea is a good place for two fathers to raise a kid together."
Sung-Ho: "I Know."
Friend: "Are you sure about this?"
Sung-Ho: "No... Not at all."

Sung-Ho is more open to having a relationship with Kwon now, they both are genuine in their love, but is that enough? Can they withstand the possible storm coming? Will they be willing or able to face the challenges? Will they have to raise a daughter in the midst of conflict and rejection? How will their daughter be treated because of her parents? While they might not outwardly say anything to her, the villagers might treat her like an outsider forever, forced to leave when she has enough of being seen as some sort of pariah. Will she resent her fathers for putting her in that situation?

Clearly Mi-Ok is going through a lot and she is barely a young adult, which doesn't excuse that she caused Kwon to be harassed and did take things too far. She feels abandoned, possibly suicidal, and has been dealing with her grandmother's health on her own. I find it weird that people are just seeing it as "a nosy brat choosing to just be a brat" and not as "a mentally unwell young adult with misguided ideas wanting to protect herself and others." Also, I'm not saying you should say "well, she's unwell, she's not wrong!" or "it's okay because she's mentally unwell." What I am saying is that people seem so reactionary that they are genuinely confused as to what Mi-Ok meant because they aren't actually listening to what she is saying but are reacting to her disapproval of a gay relationship. Might it be triggering, sure, but c'mon, please think about her words as well. Personally, I think the village people may be wary at first but will come to accept Kwon and Sung-Ho's relationship, so it will work out, but within the story, it is a real fear that Mi-Ok is experiencing.

Anyways, rant over lol

Thank you, the way Mi-Ok expressed her concerns definitely did not stick to me cuz why was she trauma dumping out of the blue, but when I read your explanation, it makes so much sense now.

No problem. The whole trauma dumping was projection, which isn't healthy, but Mi-Ok doesn't seem to have many positive outlets considering she has to be her own support system. Honestly, there are things that can be pointed out, like her making her own conclusions and taking action instead of asking. But to me it seems dishonest to try and be critical when you don't make an effort to understand what she is saying. I'm not saying you're one of those people, so I'm glad you got another view on the story!

FYI, the author had to begin self-publishing the end part of the manga bc the online publisher dropped the manga due to low sales. Currently, the author plans to re-draw from the beginning and there is the strong possibility of a sequel. However, the author has not stated anything officially regarding a date of return, so we're just going to have to sit and wait until they say what's next.

So yeah, we are sitting on hopes, dreams, and questions about the future.

So far the factions/groups are as follow: (for personal record mostly lol)

-Kaazu: Led by Hiiro, a clone and the togabito of chains. Beneath Kaazu is the Zodiac police and Nanba prisons. Their goal is to destroy all togabito.
-Zodiac Police: Organization that hunts down criminals. Currently, the warden of the male Nanba prison is looking for #610 who is the only prisoner to have ever escaped Nanba. Has become fractured.
-Ram and Sophia: They are being hunted by the Zodiac Police, Sophia's adoptive sister, Kaazu, and Shiki. They have been joined by two members of the Zodiac Police. Sophia is the togabito of Night and can awaken/ make other fall asleep.
-#610 and co: Is being hunted down by Kaazu, the Zodiac Police, and Shiki. He is an immortal togabito who can awaken powers in individuals with the aptitude for powers. He has a memory problem and is being escorted by an assassin who plans to kill him himself.
-Nanba Prison: Under the leadership of Hiiro, they function as an actual prison, the execution grounds for togabito, and as a personal cage for Jyugo. Some know the truth and others are unaware, but fractions may form as the truth is revealed.
-Uno, Rock, and Nico: For *spoiler* reasons they are maintaining a facade with Jyugo. They care about him but are hiding the truth from him.
-Enki: Decreased but he had been uncovering the truth about Nanba, and left behind evidence for the Warden and others. Kiji, the warden of female Nanba prison, and Samon are aware of some of his discoveries.

-Shiki: Led by white haired scientist(can never remember his name) who was transformed into a Togabito by #610. He is the togabito of record and can manipulate memories in various forms (such as giving memories or changing memories). He experiments a lot and is responsible for the creation/awakening of Elf, Musashi, and Jyugo. The goal of the organization is to evolve humans into togabito. They are into kidnapping and/or experimenting on people, as well as into recruiting togabito forcefully.

-Shinigami Cult: Cult that worships all kinds of death gods. Sith(?) Is a member.

-Togabitos: For various reasons they may hate or love Nanba/Kaazu/Shiki. Some are completely innocent individuals caught up in a quarrel, such as Tengu, Noriko, Musashi, etc. Some are dangerous.

These are all I can remember but man this story is great but tragic.

Qui Li October 26, 2024 8:43 pm

So 610 can make togabito, which leaves behind a scar. This means, perhaps he turned the shiki leader into a togabito (he has the scar on his neck) - but that would mean that 610 has been alive for decades as well, because the leader of shiki and the scientist guy have been alive for a long ass time apparently. But that means the whole cloning himself and his daughter thing has also been ongoing for decades - which also means that his daughter met 610 decades ago (and of course their relationship is a mystery too) and died decades ago. Which on top of all that means that Jyugo is technically decades old too, and the most recent clone (15) might have been the last one? That part is confusing because it doesn't seem that shiki has tried to make more clones.

What is more confusing though is that perhaps Elf was meant to be an imitation of 610? Because when Elf infects others, he leaves a similar scar. Since Enki and Hajime were/are infected but they had nothing to do with 610 aside from being in Nanba around the same time, it means that that has to involve Elf and not 610. But why does Jyugo not have a similar scar? He's a host of Elf but even underneath the chains he does not have a scar. It's strange. However Shiki isn't actively searching for Jyugo, and it could be that Kaazu has a big hold on him, but also what is the extent of Jyugo's powers? He has the arm things and at the end of the series he can somehow teleport, so I wonder what's up with him. Anyways, I love this series, hope the author can continue it one day lol

    Alan October 27, 2024 5:09 pm

Elf said that zakuro is a clone of jugyo but that would be impossible considering the difference in there feature which could mean that zakuro is either a designer baby made from jugyo gen or he's a humoculus

I noticed that Leo is a person who listens to respond. He doesn't really process what to say, rather he initially listens, comes up with a snappy response through the rest of what the other person is saying, and says it. I hope he does begin to pay more attention to what JJ says, because he legitimately though JJ was leaving the team and not that he was just going on a year-long project.

I feel like Maxi should be given the opportunity to grow BUT at a different time. Don't get me wrong, she has to learn at some point but it could have been on a shorter adventure, maybe with someone who could directly show her (like the mage dude). This is a big journey through dangerous environments, no one can both show her how to do her job and ensure her safety comes first when they need to watch their own backs and they don't know magic. Riftan doesn't have the time or capacity to lead the expedition, ensure the safety of all his soldiers, and both teach and protect Maxi. It would be different if Maxi was just a friend or love interest, because then Riftan would have less of a duty to protect her directly, but she's his spouse, he has a direct duty to protect her but he can't juggle everything, especially with an un-experienced Maxi.

Ultimately, Maxi should be given opportunities to grow that are appropriate for her level, so she can have the space to make non-lethal mistakes. That would also soothe Riftan's fears. Riftan is a jerk for closing himself off, but you gotta remember that he thinks that Maxi didn't want to marry him and that she herself refused to move to his land because she was fully provided for at her family home (not true but he doesnt know that yet). He believes she is a pampered young lady who knows no suffering, so he's under the impression that his worth is correlated with how much he can protect and provide for Maxi. If she has to go out into the battlefield, he thinks he's failing. If she gets hurt, he's failing. He's distancing himself because he knows he would go wild and that would only put her in more danger. Again, he is being a jerk, but it is true that Maxi should have had more level-appropriate journeys first.

It's not that serious ultimately because it's fiction, but just something I wanted to point out lol (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

    Unoriginal Artist October 13, 2024 1:17 am

Agreed! I do think maxi needs a chance to grow but it's to much all at once and riftan really needs to learn more about maxi tbh, actually so does maxi about her spouse

Although I agree that the ML is a dirt bag, hope he gets abandoned for a long while, it's interesting that he does not actually reveal anything about his background to the MC. Not excusing the bastard, but the most he's personally revealed is that he does not have a good relationship with his father. Everything else has been told by his sister, which she's clearly using to try and manipulate the MC.

This either means that 1. The bastard is being somewhat honest in his approach to the MC, because he's trying to charm him into staying rather than just relying on his sad background. He's still a shady bastard nonetheless but he's not using his past to his advantage. 2. He told his sister to do it. I don't put it past him not gonna lie. I believe the bastard is trying to influence MC through outside means, but he's failing because nothing is really sticking long enough not to raise doubt. Interestingly, MC is even doubting the lab results, which I don't put past the bastard to manipulate either. The bastard IS using their son, so if it seems the treatment is going 100% well (not just 80% or 90%) then the MC is more inclined to stay.

I get that ppl may not agree with that one chick but I believe it's one of those "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" situations. We know she had a complex about her appearance already, so we know that she may struggle with the idea that you don't have to fit a mold to be accepted. And it seems she cares a lot about those around her, so it just seems like she wants to protect ML through a misguided idea of what normal is. ML is already a generally lonely person, so if it's revealed that he's in a homosexual relationship in their little South Korean rural village, he may be isolated even further. My best guess is that the villagers will either not care too much or they'll quickly adapt, especially because they have respect for ML, but the chick doesn't realize that.

Sure it's not her place to dictate who ML can date but it seems she has good intentions and it may not even mean she herself believes homosexuality is wrong. I could be wrong but it seems she's just misguided. It could even mean she herself has struggles with sexuality or maybe it's just that her self-image problems are being projected onto the ML due to stress from her situation. I prefer to wait and see honestly. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

    Sutsot October 9, 2024 1:08 am

I agree. She may not have bad intentions but it is still not her place to mind the ML's business. She may be stressed out but why would she be stressed out of ML's love life.

    Yaoi Jesus October 9, 2024 1:16 am

It's a rural village in a country that hasn't legalized same sex marriage yet and the majority population seems to be elderly. It does seem like she's worried about the circumstances and not the actual principle. Especially because Kwon genuinely loves this village, puts so much money and effort into maintaining the livelihoods of the people living in it, and doesn't seem to ever want to move.

Her not even talking about this with him and actively trying to break them up is rude and the part I have a problem with but her worries aren't unfounded

    Qui Li October 9, 2024 1:18 am

If she felt the need to have surgery to correct something she was insecure about, she could see that ML dating a man is something that needs to be corrected. I do agree it's not her business, but I want to wait and see rather than jumping to just "she's a bitch!" LOL

I think it's both things, she's just worried about him in her own misguided way. She's definitely wrong in making assumptions and doing things behind his back, but she's also a young college student whose just left the comfort of her rural village. She's definitely going to get a strong wake up call, but I don't think she's some evil bitch like some comments make her sound.
