He's so distant due to her innate reaction of fear towards him from her being a new demon. It's something she has to work on and it probably upsets him emotionally to see his most cherished and loved person flinch from just his presence. You see his true feelings about it in this new chapter, too. He was ready to wait another 200 years for her to touch him again without fear. My man is so obsessed and patient.
