Why does a person “always question” their “existence?

There are several plausible reasons.

#1 A person has an awakening consciousness in which they begin to be keenly aware that something exists, and the identity that exists can be referred to as a unique identity referred to as a “my” or a “me” or an “I”.

Philosophically and theologically, this identity is usually referred to as a self.

Several things can be known of the self.

(a) It is not material, or what is referred to as “physical”.

How is this known?

It can be known that the self is not material or physical because the knowledge discipline which researches the natural phenomena

(material or physical phenomena) recognizes that what exists is matter, energy, space, and time. As of the year 2017, no scientist has ever been credited with the discovery of a self that consists of matter, energy, space, or time.

Throughout human history therefore, mankind has had these “problems” and speculations and assertions go back and forth continually. Also, in the knowledge discipline of the sciences, sometimes people operate as though there just were no questions, and instead, act as though everyone knows clearly what everyone else is saying.

For practical purposes, mankind has no choice but to affirm some things and assume some things, whether there is actual scientific evidence showing that certain identities exist, or not. For example, in the activity of a psychiatric or psychological therapy, there can be an assumption that there does exist a “you” or a “me”. But no neuroscientist has empirical evidence that a “you” or a “me” or a “them” as illustrative of a “self”—- actually exists.

Our best language becomes, at some point, vague, and not always “objective” as we wish our knowledge to be.

Regarding your particular question.

As a small child, perhaps only about 3 years old, I experienced something which may be of interest.

#1 I was aware that I was in an “animal” body, and I was particularly aware of my teeth. In the body, the teeth are the one part of anatomy which has a crystalline structure. I remember beating my head against the floor to “get out of” that body.

Laughable perhaps, but I think pain may have had something to do with discontinuing that practice.

#2 The other experience perhaps 5 years old, was that I was aware of robots and machines, and I wondered if I might be a robot or a machine. I also questioned my “existence”.

This might not seem plausible. However, I have learned that different people have different levels of “consciousness”. Some can be very “self-aware” and others can be almost “unaware”. When I entered into this body, even though a child, I was “aware” of many things.

#3 Some people seem to have a “consciousness” which is balanced and focused. Everything in their experiences just seems to be a matter of practicality. Children must be raised and sent off to school. Money must be discussed, and plans made for life. Everything just sort of “goes on”.

Some people seem to have a need to ask questions.

Questions may be like:

#1 Is life all about money or power or prestige?

#2 Is life all about controlling other people and controlling all circumstances?

#3 Is life all about something delusional called “success” or All—Time—Happiness?

#4 Is life a living hell in which a person is tormented by problems?

On and on then thinking occurs, in a consciousness which is associated with mind which is associated with soul which is associated with what is referred to in a more precise way, as a transcendent self.

#1 This is the subject of the thoughts about “Do——I——Exist?”

To bring this to a point then, the answers follow a pattern something like this.

Answer:
“Yes, I exist.”

I and all other “selves” experience pain and pleasure. It is real.

#2 How do I exist?

Answer: The general idea in theology (religion) and philosophy, is that some Self

even more transcendent than “you” —- created you.

#3 What is such a Transcendent Self that can create all things, including billions of “transcendent selves”.

Answer:

Usually, it is called “God”.

Sometimes the Transcendent Self is referred to as a light.

#4 What can I do, or know, and can I know WHY?

Few if any people can satisfactorily explain why.

Sometimes it is said that it is for Joy, or Glory, or Love and who knows what else?

The one singular and most difficult question is WHY?

.

#5 What should I do?

Learn, grow, study, love. Work for others and with others.

Do not just think of yourself all of the time. Do not be Ego Centric or

“Self-Centered”.

The wise have always proposed that people be self-forgetting.

To live for “self” and not for “others” is not often recommended.

Care for the children and the mothers and the old, the injured and the sick.

Love the Transcendent Self. Love your self. Love the other selves.

Study the teachings of those who claim to have knowledge of the Transcendent Self.

Study the ancient writings and try to understand why they are important. Some say it is wise to find the greatest “transcendent being” that has ever been on this planet.

[Sometimes, the “selves” are skeptical. For them, a starting point might be in seeking to find harmony in and through all things.] Any Tattoo BL

I understand people and their lifestyle or just the way their brain function makes them question reality all the time. As my brain works like that I am so thankful for your opinion on the matter I hope you a happy life and long one at that.

the problem i have with this is that it seems like you're attempting to use logical reasoning to theorize a purpose to our lives simply using rationality. if i read this correctly, you're essentially saying that since there is no "true" self, we should live for others. if there is no true identity, then feelings like love or hate should not be part of one's identity either, they would simply exist as brain states, chemical signals, or physical reactions, according to materialists.
according to your logic, since there is no self, one should not be egotistical, they should care for others and study "transcendent" beings, assuming a transcendent being does exist on a different level than us. this answers the question of "what should i do", but it does not have a basis to it and is logically flawed. assuming my true identity does not and will not exist unless i am a transcendent being, nobody else's would either, so why would i put in the effort to care for others? shouldn't one's goals be to become a transcendent being and therefore exist, such as achieving the nirvana in buddhism? since in your argument the premise is that there is no self, only material objects and actions on the physical level (which would make your argument similar to that of a materialist's), that means there shouldn't be a true purpose to life. there is nothing we "should" do, as we have no obligation to be helping others who also don't exist.

Yeah mentally everyone is different and that we are always different to our "true Idenity" it's a mask to make others believe that we are neighbor but that is a different convo for another day but over all ever purpose is different for ever person wether they want to raise kids or traveling he world and helping others each person is has a purpose and we should always follow what our morale compass and we should be our "best self". But this is just my opinion we can still question our existence but what co-impacts is finding our purpose to find a reason to see yourself in the reality that is what makes the fear of existance go away but many don't and forever feel lost in space but really you are on land. But then the thought that this is all a simulation which makes many perplex to the thought of moving on thinking when they die they just "wake up' but then their always the thought that this is all real and you just wasted their whole life thinking life is a lie and that we don't matter but infact you actually do. These are just thought that fly through my head all day but you have to just keep going I am thankful for your reply I feel the same mostly but I am just thamkful someone answering to my rambling thoughts in my head my dog just pst today and I am just scared and I don't know if I am really here feeling detached Thanks(〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
