There's something really off about a character's weakness being taken advantage of bc the other character thinks them acting tough is cute. Why turn his not wanting to show his cute side into a joke when you introduced it as trauma that made him change his whole personality. OMG it is predatory that he saw the character wasn't being honest so he decided maybe I can get sex out of him. I haven't even gotten to what the other comments are talking about with age gap with a middle schooler and a high schooler. Problematic as fuck, damn
I wanna know what's going on with Elencia, at first I thought she was gonna be one of those clever nice nasty villains but she just seems really childish and attention seeking. For some reason this reminds me of that other comic where the women switched bodies, but only of them realized they had switched
Spoiler
So to keep it short, she's stupid and doesn't like philomel. That's why she wrote a fanfiction (the book) about the game she played and made philomel ending miserable (she took over Elencia's body just to live her delulu). In the game, philomel has her happy ending and she wasn't satisfied with it. Btw the og Elencia is a sweetheart
?? Really?! I only saw multiple people commenting what I said in these comments and on forums but if she does go with her bio dad and brothers than I'm happy because she seems to love them and they obviously love her. I know she does run away at some point but I thought she came back and at the end the emperor officially adopted her.
She run away and came back and emperor wants to adopt her but she said no but she still stayed in the palace. towards the end after she found out about him knowing she was there and still said all those horrible things she didn't want to give him anymore chances and left for good and went with her bio family.
Even if you don't want to see the oddities in having a dark skinned main character (wether it be a reference to colonized Africans or Indians etc) be called a slave and whipped by a light skinned person within the first few pages of a hentai, it is strange to not acknowledge the writer either has a master/slave kink, is trying to bait people so they can get more ppl to read their stuff, or both. This could be something lost in translation but why after the abolishment of hard labor are captives of war still being called slaves? Wouldn't it make more sense for the king and his council that supposedly eradicated hard labor to start calling them refugees, or something that's not slaves?
Ok, the skin color doesn't bother you, the fact that people are being called slaves when they're not slaves doesn't bother you, what about the fact that the main character immediately forgets about the little kid or the many other people- his people- that are still being antagonized and treated like less than bc they were originally enslaved. His whit- ice "savior's" kingdom has slaves and he's chillin bc of a hug? At the very least the writer is guilty of not paying attention to the nuance of what they wrote. Also in the 3rd chapter the writer just outright outs themselves by having the king character say that's a command/order while having sex. If it wasn't about a dark skinned character getting whipped by a whit- light skinned character why did they add it? Almost immediately the story changes into something else and that's just poor writing. Hmmm maybe they'll go more into depth about the politics but from what I've seen it looks like a writer who has a slave master fetish for specifically dark skinned and whit- light skinned characters....If you don't think so or see it my way that's your opinion. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ Just a fellow reader's opinion
Yeah I think this BL leans more on the interpretation of plot = smut. I def also paused at the way slavery and the use of the term despite what u said is still used, but am also not sure whether this is an official translation? Either way, this is all very much a no brain cells needed or wanted kind of story. As for the use of dark skin in manga as a sort of "allure" I think some people have written papers about it. It's very intriguing trying to understand how race is percieved in east asia, specifically Japan with its own colonial history. Definitely could be an analysis written on this manga, but ngl I don't think the author put much brain work into it, so don't hold ur breath on worldbuilding
You may not realize you're doing it, but you are insulting the writer(and their intelligence) when you say they didn't put much brain work into. Also I'm guessing it wasn't your intention but I don't think you should tell someone how to feel just because it's not something that affects you. Whether or not it was their intention to be offensive, it was. Even if someone slapped you and said it was out of love, you were still slapped. Only the writer knows their true intentions, so I formed my opinion from what they did in the comic. Translation as excuse can only go so far when the person who has less power in the situation is made out to be in love with their country's invader. Why is it okay for someone to write about such a serious topic(a topic that has brought about wars and rebellions) so flagrantly? Hentai is not an excuse to be offensive and it can still be called out for it's oddities. I will not give it's weirdness a pass, because that in my eyes would be normalizing it.
Ok but if you really wanna fight against colonialism, I think there are better ways to do it than posting a comment on an illegal manga reading site for a work that has a (relatively) small audience. I was just replying to your comment that I don't think this was made maliciously, maybe more from a place of ignorance that privilege often grants. No need to come at me. I agree that smut is no excuse and yeah stuff like that should be called out, but it's probably more effective when the audience reading the piece is actually buying into it (like with popular books like ACOTAR etc). Of course, you're still totally entitled to have and post your opinion, but please don't come at me when I make a non-hostile response. I swear I'm not coming at you from a hostile place, so I'd appreciate the same grace.
My darling the intention of my reply wasn't to "come at you". But that is your opinion so I won't tell you how to feel. You commented under a post that said I don't care about your opinion and even in your second reply you're trying to point out the writer may not have come from a place of malice. I pointed out how I, a person who didn't ask to be placated, received your comment and used a metaphor. It doesn't matter to me how big or small the audience is, because apparently someone read it. Chill I just like talking about books, and I put I don't care about your opinion in the title of this comment for this exact reason. I don't plan to argue.
I was initially trying to just agree with you and mention that there are articles about fetishizing darker skin in manga that I thought might tickle your fancy, but I guess I didn't do a good job at conveying that. Not trying to change any opinions, just thought I was fostering a conversation. Oh well
oh god all these virtue signallers extra woke people. light skinned people have also been slaves. we have to take fiction for fiction and stop making it have some deep meaning. there are so many stories depicting actual abuse rape and slavery in worse ways. just stfu . go to twitter to yap about how u find everything offensive
My simple minded counterpart this comment is specific to this book and btw I didn't exclude "light skinned" people from colonization. My comment was not only about slavery, I critiqued the author's writing. Books have meaning and are impactful to those who read them ie the Bible ie the Lord of the Rings ie any novel that has ever been discussed lmao, just because you don't like to think about what you engage with doesn't mean I have ignore blatant things. My comment was hidden but you took it upon yourself to be offended by reading my supposed virtue signaling.
Also my lovely simpleton please note the irony in your commenting under my comment. So since I don't have a twitter please on my behalf with a cherry on top go yap to your heart's content.
Is it not weird that that lady asked for his number even though he was clothes shopping with a woman who from an outsider's perspective could've been his girlfriend? Sheisty. Also did the ex bf insinuate she was being incestuous just bc she didn't want to kick out her little brother? He wanted her to live with his parents, I guess he didn't recognize the irony in that. Also she went from being his cooking wench jk, to being compared to a mother, to his love interest? Last one, she rather live in an old time village with monsters than the modern world that has technology and clothes that aren't made from paper fabric that rips in the wash just bc of a few mean comments and a weirdo ex who she doesn't have to see? Right
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it really was just her projecting her feelings onto them. If you don't getch yo whack ass...idgaf about her lonely ass if she tries to bring others down bc of it. WTF? "I was miserable bc I was different, so I don't want you to be different" ass excuse. girl get the fuck up and sit down again bc what was that logic? get help
There is legit no misunderstanding, one person has been honest the whole time and the other person has been playing a weird game of push and pull. Taesung knew Woo Young's feelings and ignored them- sure Chopper was there but every time he asked Woo Young if he liked Chopper more, Woo Young said no. Woo Young was afraid of coming out and hid his feelings, instead of just saying hey I like you too after Woo Young finally revealed he's gay Taesung continued to act like a possessive weirdo completely just ignoring the fact that his friend came out to him. I was genuinely surprised when Woo Young called him out for ignoring him, but this story just keeps going in circles bc why is Taesung behaving this way? Is he okay? Doesn't he have anything going on for himself?
Lol how am I supposed to take this comic seriously when they show the guy supposedly in deep thought then show a snap shot of his pink nipple. And at the beginning of the chapter those useless bitches that are the kid's supposed parents won't let him be friends with kids his own age, but allow him to meet with a random adult just bc he's dating the kid's co-star? what's happening
Chapter 62 was great but I would've much preferred Your Throne levels of disappearing that rat bitch
