Imo it's realistic. It's still child labor (which I do not condone) but it's not slavery, they gave him a paying job that he can quit anytime he wishes. And obviously a malnourished kid his age can only do mundane chores like cleaning while regaining the strength he should have at his age, so he can't train to be a knight yet. They left all the other kids free, they probably just ended up in the streets with a much harder time looking for a job, so Theo is quite likely one of the luckiest kids that were freed from that hellhole. In their country the crown prince is expected to stab the current emperor in the heart for the crown to be passed on, I reckon they're not the most advanced in terms of ethics and morals. Or maybe the rest of the kids were placed in an orphanage (although it didn't sound like that to me), but Theo INSISTED himself that he would go with Chloe. Obviously he can't be treated as a guest, if he wants to stay he's got to provide some kind of service, as fucked up as that might sound in today's society. I feel like one way to solve this would be to appoint him as Chloe's playmate, but we'll see as this goes on

I don't get it... she's a hostage that belongs to another country and a princess at that! she's been 'gifted' to the emperor! meaning she technically belongs to him. What makes you think that you can just barge into her room and decide to kill her? like who the fuck do you think you are?! Only the emperor has a say in what to do with the hostage... these mofos are walking around the castle as if it belongs to their daddy.. Like she could kill their parents right in front of their eyes and they still have no say in what to do with her life, like it really isn't up to them to decide her fate or punishment, her fate is up to the emperor ALONE. and if they did kill her or did something to her that means these mere knights have no respect or regard to their emperor whom they oh fear so much. the power dynamic in this story is throwing me off a bit..

It’s like the author only added it so the ML could catch her & they could have that scene together afterwards (plus to add to the sense of the FL feeling lonely & unwanted, etc, to prepare for the change as ppl accept her over time or something cliche like that) yk but it doesn’t actually make SENSE...
