They ended up in that village because Jae-shin sent the last ghost he met to get information about starving ghosts. The information gathered by the ghosts led them to that village.

The evil queen collected ghosts and placed them around Lee nok to slowly kill him off and make the way for her own son to be future crown prince. But the ghosts she attached to him turned out to be ones that she had created herself by putting innocent ppl in different hellish situations which killed them and instd of going to underworld their spirits with their heavy lingering attachment ( result of queens plotting) were captured by the queen.
Jaeshin had already freed the bride ghost previously n now he's set out with nok to free the rest of them. Each time they do the queen faces curse rebound n feels same pain the ghosts did when they died
