How to Get My Husband on My Side
This story will make you feel. It's well written and the character work is really good in this. Cesare is an uncomfortable presence anytime he is brought up, so is the rival lady, but to a lesser extent. The trauma is portrayed pretty realistically and even though so much would be solved if Ruby just opened her mouth, it's incredibly and tragically understandable why she doesn't. The poor thing is so traumatized with 2 lifetimes of abuse. I'm surprised her PTSD hasn't acted up more. The most recent chapters with her creepy brother visiting is so tense for her, and I can't help but wish his bullshit would be caught soon and she'd be helped to get away. I feel for her so much. I love the interactions between the main couple after Isek finally figures out how to show his feelings. He's cold and has no idea about just how traumatized his wife is. Some of the misunderstandings were a bit forced, but It's easy to forgive the further you get in the story. I love their little fluffy interactions, it's so intensely sweet and I constantly crave more. I do understand why people initially shipped Ivan with MC, because honestly he is the only one for a bit who is consistently nice and kind to her out of pretty much everyone. He is the only one with positive interactions with her. Of course that's before Isek's squire is introduced and it's a relief he's there. Honestly if MC had run away with the monsters she'd probably have it much easier, but it's hard to escape when you're so used to being in a cage. I hope the monsters tear Cesare apart at some point. Really interesting story, especially with the wealth of character dynamics and how everyone feels like a person. Would recommend in a heartbeat, so glad I picked this up. Honestly speaking despite my love of overpowered protag isekai stories with no romance, these stories always best them in terms of character work alone.
The translation varies, but is good. There's some uploads by people who don't know english, which worries me, as I really really don't want this reading experience to be ruined by those idiots. It's far too good a story to deserve their grubby mits wrecking it. The art, is also very good, exuding personality and being very good at illustrating the story. Also mostly unblemished by stupid scanlator logos or what not. As I said, fully recommend this story, hopefully it's not ruined in future by word salad!
Again My Life
A young prosecutor tries his best to put a powerful man behind bars. Unfortunately he fails, as the corruption around him runs deep and the young man finds himself murdered on a dark and stormy night. A mysterious reaper asks him if he still wants to try and bring the man to justice, he replies in the affirmative and finds himself transported back in time to his school days, he has his second chance.
This story is complete, and pretty good. It's very revenge driven, but our MC doesn't stray off the path of justice, despite being told that he has to become a monster in order to take his revenge. It's fine, I wouldn't say it's amazing, but it's good, and keeps you engaged. I found the pacing fine, and the characters were interesting enough. I suppose MC can feel a little bland, but honestly he's a righteous man on a revenge path, and never really struggles with doing the right thing. The art is good, but somehow bland. MC as an adult barely looks different to the child version. There's at at least 3 ladies that develop crushes on MC, but romance is never a thing in this story, so they get rejected (gently) or MC is too oblivious to even notice their feelings. The translation is shaky at times, but mostly ok if sloppy. There's spelling mistakes and stuff. Sometimes that one secretary gets called security. It's fine. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're into revenge and reincarnation.
Delivery Man From Murim
A powerful martial arts master ends up in a modern day alternate universe. He finds things strange, wonders around, saves a child and eventually gets a job as a delivery man in exchange for food and board. Dude wants to live a quite life, so he doesn't show off his powers in society.
This was an interesting premise and I wanted to see where it'd go. It... it turned into slice of life, which wouldn't be bad though perhaps misleading, but the story is just... boring. What kind of slice of life skips over character development and interactions??? It's inconceivable! Issues arise and are dealt with easily and I was going along with it cause MC is an absolute master and I figured he'd need much more notoriety before any real challenges come find him. But then the story just skips from one scenario to the next and you've got nothing to interest you, because none of the introduced characters are then fleshed out in any way. There's a guy MC offers to train and then some chapters later he reappears again and I didn't know who he was! I completely forgot him, he left zero impression AND none of the "training" was ever shown. Did MC even start training him? Did they already have a session? I have no idea, but it certainly wasn't shown if it already did happen. ( ⚆ _ ⚆ ) I thought we'd get interesting adventures happening while MC was out making deliveries, but no, it's skipped over, never see him making a hand off, he just goes and comes back. What is even the point?! This is so weird.
I recommend finding something more stimulating to read. It doesn't even need to be better than this, hell something worse would still make you feel something. This is just.... nothing, from plot, to characters, to art. Meh to the bone. ఠ _ ఠ
Trapped in A Cursed Game As an NPC
Oof, the setup to this story is so rough. I only managed to read the first 2 chapters, before deciding this isn't for me.
A gaming company employee responsible for troubleshooting enters a of notoriously buggy VR game to do her job. Something goes wrong and MC is trapped in the game living as her character for 24 hours (2 years in game), only to suddenly remember she wasn't the character who she was playing as and was supposed to be doing her job. MC is unable to log out, getting an error message, she then tries to seek help from other game company staff through an in game channel. She is successful in making contact, but not in immediately getting out, apparently it'll take 48 hours (4 years in game).
So... immediately when MC is able to make contact with other game administrators this falls apart. MC says she's stuck in game for 24 hours, so admin decides they'll send people to her house to get her VR head set off. MC isn't there or at her place of work. Apparently the law doesn't allow anyone outside of direct family to report someone as missing, so no filing missing person's cause MC apparently lives alone and has no family. I find this law difficult to believe, but whatever, ok, I'll suspend my disbelief. They then tell MC it'll take another 48 hours to get her out. She rightly freaks out, and they tell her "Oh don't worry you won't die of starvation in 3 days, you'll be ok." To which I think, it only takes 2 days without water to die. She's in real danger of dying or at least needing urgent medical care if she doesn't already. Also the fact even one person is unable to log out due to some error would have the gaming devs *panicking* because there's a high chance it could have happened to others, such as the fucking players! Which would make it actually dangerous, and the company directly liable for trapping people in the game *for years*. Apparently a day in the real world will feel like 2 actual years in game. So yeah, it's very bad. People could go to jail for this, or at least be sued within an inch of their lives.
Instead MC gets into some group chat with the devs who are just totally dismissive of MC's plight, making fun of her, and just expecting her to be calm and respectful when she's in real danger of dying. So.. I was unable to suspend my disbelief for this story. It really doesn't work for me. Also i find it difficult to believe the devs wouldn't immediately know where she is based on her connection to the gaming server. The people who made and designed the game, have access to the servers and the player info and MC's account, they should be able to find her real world body easily. >_> It should not take days, but hours at most.
I think the set up should have been the dev people looking into MC and then thinking she isn't real or some sort of prank because they can't find her login info or something. Have that immediately established rather then people callously making fun of MC for not knowing she can't log out by killing her character.
Lastly, why would beating the game magically fix this log out error? Why would it automatically log her out, when attempting to exit the game doesn't work? I mean I suppose it could be a thing to try, but why even suggest that when the game is buggy crap that doesn't work properly and no-one has even beaten it yet?? They should be working to fix the error. Or they could just temporarily shut the servers down. That would be a much quicker way to log this person out then asking her to beat their shitty game. Just make it make sense!
Devil Returns To School Days
Found this under the martial arts tag. lol. You know how some action comics will have romance in the background, but despite that you wouldn't consider it romance? Yeah, that's how tenuous the martial arts tag is in this.
Anyway, A severely bullied kid finds himself thrown off the school roof by his bullies. The school covers it up, he ends up in a coma that's more locked in body syndrome then an actual coma. The hospital declares him to be in a vegetative state. This should mean no brain function and so no way he could be conscious of things happening around him and hearing people and the TV. Hospitals can monitor brain function and determine these things pretty effectively, yet the translation keeps calling him a vegetable (i.e. no brain function) despite that demonstrably not being the case. Yep, sure is another story where the translator or author doesn't know the meaning of the words they are using. But so, MC spends 10 years in this weird locked in syndrome thing, until he suddenly goes back in time to the day his bullying starts. He wants all of the revenge and proceeds to ape-shit his way to it with a hell of a lot of brains and some brawn. Though not enough for this to deserve the martial arts tag imo.
Nitpicking aside the story is pretty compelling, though has some weaknesses for me. It's very addictive and binge worthy. A lot happens, but it's not overwhelming nor does it give you action fatigue. The pacing is great and nothing outstays it's welcome! MC's motivation is extremely compelling and his single minded pursuit of his goals drags you through the narrative mercilessly, making it difficult to put this story down to go to the toilet let alone be a functioning member of society.
Character development belongs solely to MC, the other characters are barely better then cardboard cut outs. Everyone sucks, including MC sometimes (which is fine), but the "bad guys" are so over the top I can see some people being put off by it. So that's one of the weaknesses, character development and character moments for people other than MC. We barely get to see MC spending time with his family, talking and having family bonding time. We get some things with the little bro, but it's all solved so quickly we barely see MC and bro together before the story moves on. The trainer and friend are absent for much of the story despite MC supposedly meeting them like every day. Also MC manages to get perfect grades despite all the shit he's doing. How is he even getting home to cook for his family on time if he's off training and having meetings so often?? How is he just fucking off to meet all the dudes for his schemes without his grandmother trying to parent and figure out what this kid is up to. He gets fucked up so much at the beginning but we get no reactions from the family because the whole scene of him being at home with those injuries is entirely missing. Like I wanted more character moments, but fuck me if I know where in the hell the author would have stuck them without completely ruining the pacing of the story. Thus, I'd argue that his family should have been cut entirely and he should have been a welfare kid living alone.
The translation ranges from passable to ok. Wouldn't call it great, but it's legible and doesn't completely destroy one's immersion in the story. The art.... needs some more work. The action looks good but the faces are ugly in the way that comes from the artist having trouble with drawing them, rather than because this is a story mostly populated with ugly terrible people. It's really mostly just the faces, the body proportions and depiction of action is good. All in all, it's popcorn, not particularly good or stimulating, but great fun and easily consumed.
Academy Genius Swordmaster
MC is a strong swordsman who's pretty much the last warrior standing in the face of an apocalypse brought on by angel like beings. He's heavily wounded and finds his commanding officer, a woman who turns out to have known the about the apocalypse and tried to stopped it three times, dying propped against a rock. The commander failed to stop the apocalypse 3 times and feels MC might do better, so she gives him the ability to restart his life from a young age and try to prevent the apocalypse in her stead. He does so and after reincarnating back to his youth, goes to attend a prestigious academy to gather and train strong allies to join his cause.
The beginning had me, but it then lost me a bit when MC is revealed to be even more special than he initially was. It didn't completely lose me mind, but just a bit. I find this story not to be bad or terrible, but it is a little forgettable? I feel it's too mean to put it like that, but at the same time, that's how I feel. I do encourage giving this a read, because it's not bad, and the characters are compelling, even if the plot occasionally is not.
The art is pretty good, and the translation is legible. Meaning that so far, no chapters translated by people who don't actually know any english have been uploaded to ruin readership.
