I do think "longing for freedom" plays a certain role in his decision but i would say the majority part is the freedom of his brother.
I have a sibling and if they have to be imprisoned for the rest of their life battling with illness from the side effects of a poison I will never be happy no matter who I am with...
Like I love my child 100% but if the choices are freeing my sibling and my only living relative and caring for them with having to unfortunately leave my baby in GOOD care vs living with my newborn baby and see my sibling in pain for the rest of my life...I will also choose the 1st option.
