A Beastly Scandal
The art isn't bad at all, I'm quite surprised! The cover art looked like one of those trashy smut webtoons, but it isn't the case so far. The story involves two actors who hate each other but need to work together to act like they're best of pals for a variety show. The female lead is not weak, and has a strong motivational drive so she knows what she wants in life. The male lead is a little pushy and domineering and I don't like him, but maybe they'll explain his behavior later on. I hope this webtoon doesn't go straight into the trash bin in the future, as these kinds of stories tend to do.
Update: Finished at 77 chapters, quality declined rapidly after ten chapters and I just wanted this crap to end. Nothing important happens, male lead is still an ass, and they get happily married ever after like no one saw that coming, right?
Night Crying Crow
A famous actor wakes up in the middle of the night and is attacked by a woman in black. Like basically most men, he uses his raging hormones instead of his brains, so he asks her for her phone number, which she doesn't give him. They're doing some kind of surveillance of his neighbor who's involved in drug smuggling. Not sure where this is going, since she seems to be a terrible spy or secret agent to have been discovered so quickly. He even uses "charismatic" to describe her... Dude, that's like one of the worst traits for you to have to be a successful spy slash secret agent slash thief since the whole point is to NOT get noticed. Also, it seems her physical strength is below his, even though he's not trained, because he easily pulls her towards him several times. By the way, this webtoon is from the perspective of the male actor, and not the female agent person, so ignore the tags for "Strong Female Lead" people are putting up, because she's not the lead. She's more like the female love interest, to be precise. The art is weird. The backgrounds and other inanimate objects are drawn beautifully, but the actual people are not drawn in an aesthetically pleasing way. There's too much use of thick solid lines and the faces are too angular to be considered beautiful. But overall, the art is quite good.
Update: Completed at 60 chapters. Was awful.
I Stack Experience Through Writing Books
Holy crap, this webtoon is one of the worst ones I've read so far. Not only is the art super bad, so is everything else. I don't understand how his power really works, besides that he gets some arbitrary points for recording his experiences and he can use them to exchange for knowledge or skills? The male lead has no personality, and he's a perfect character who can literally do everything perfectly since he got the skills from the book exchange. There is no conflict and each chapter is dedicated to showing off how supposedly good he is at everything. But my main problem here is how the artist is terribly bad at their job in trying to depict it. Like he's supposed to be a master calligrapher, but the so-called masterpiece calligraphy he writes are laughably bad. I was almost mentally crying with frustration from looking at the chicken scratch calligraphy that grown men were clamoring over and saying it will cost millions of won. Like seriously? And then he got the experience of cooking and oh lord, the webtoon went even more downhill from there. There's lots of drawings of panels where they're eating to show his food expertise, and the artist of this webtoon cannot draw appealing food worth a shit, since all the food looks like blobs of different colors, then you have the characters gushing over how delicious and appetizing the food is. I think I lost some brain cells...Not to mention, despite the so-called expertise of the main character, the author clearly did no research and just randomly spouts ridiculous stuff using their characters which make absolutely no sense, like how pork is easier to eat than beef and how sweet potatoes work with tteokbokki. I can't even. And the male lead is also a Michaelangelo, so he's a master painter too, and he paints awful drawings that once again, everyone praises him to death over. Please pass this webtoon, it is a travesty.
Update: Completed at 150 chapters.
Limited Time Princess
Female lead is isekai'd to a novel world where she's the villainess, but instead of going down that path, she decides she'll do her best to survive, blah blah. Typical villainess isekai storyline. There's some lore about the goddess and the Chosen One, but it's not a strong focus at this point. The main thing is that it's not her, it's a red-haired girl who's destined to be the savior, and the female lead will die trying to kill her, according to the novel. It's very average so far in terms of the story, there's nothing special about it. The art is ok, about slightly above average for shoujo fantasy webtoons. There's definitely some shortcuts and change in art quality in the panels, if they're not focused on the main characters.
Update: I think it's finished at 70 chapters. Not much happens from beginning to end, so if you're looking for something good, skip this one. Basically, all the good guys get their happy endings, the bad guys are banished, and all is well. No one dies, since this story had zero stakes from the beginning.
His Majesty Doesn't Want To Be Too Bossy
The female protagonist who is masquerading as her twin brother who died has now become emperor, but has no real power since the royal court officials are under the power of the prince regent. The girl is incredibly stupid and ignorant, and should not even be an emperor. There was a scene where everyone was bashing the emperor for being a terrible ruler and she was feeling angry, but as a reader, I cannot feel any sympathy for her. Instead of properly overseeing the matters of the country, she prances around in her girl outfit to look for a husband. Is this the way a true ruler would act? She's not clever at all, and is leagues behind the prince regent. I don't see how she will even grow if she doesn't realize her mistakes. The author is very good at drawing male faces, especially of the main love interests, but is awful at body proportions. The hands always look off and weird because it's either too long or too short.
Update: I think it's finished at 62 chapters.
