This story went so off the rails it’s hard to even problem solve, what happened here??? You have a guy attempt to bash the FLs head open w a rock, and then the main guy we’re supposed to root for LEAVES HER WITH THE MURDERER, who has murdered her MULTIPLE TIMES, as well as erasing all memories that could protect her from being murdered again. Yeah cool ok.
And sure, just let him live in her house too. Why the fuck not.
Like, i was still trying to mentally grasp the fact the weird age gap and her hesitation w being physical w him seemingly flying out the window halfway thru w zero reasoning when this shit happened.
Idk, this was a real letdown. the art and premise couldve made for a good time, it’s a real shame

Legit i dont even keep track of the plot in this anymore, i just show up for:
1.Geordo
2.Yuri ending they’ll never let happen (i played the switch game, they didnt even have the balls for a true yuri route in that so there’s no hope here ( ╥﹏╥)

I wouldn't use the game as reference lol. The novel was not created by one of otomate's employed writers since the novels were created before the game and was published by a light novel publisher. The rights for main story (novel, manga and anime) is not under otomate/ideal factory's control. Otomate have only controls over the otome game's writing which was done in collaboration with the author. Being the publishers they made the game not Yuri friendly.
Original author was employed by the otomate so they don't have full power and rights over the game writing and well ideal's factory's rigid "no Yuri" policy. Even their more edgy branch, Rejet, does not offer Yuri options as Dramatic create, nitroc and other visual novel company's (forgot the names lmao basically Butterfly chain something otome, etc). Heck even when Otomate bought the rights for HnknA, an otome with over 9+ games and each has a Yuri route, they completely cut the Yuri route when they published Spade no kuni no Alice and tore off everything that made the OG games edgy, interesting and very grey in terms of characters and content.
My point is if you buy an otome that is dev by ideal factory (otomate & rejet). NEVER EXPECT A YURI romance. At best you get girl likes MC but never is reciprocated. A common theme of otomate's game is that the heroine is loved and wanted by everyone lol.

Ohhh shit, i actually didnt know that about otomate, thats a huge bummer they gutted hnkna too, that’s one of my favorite series ;-; also feels odd when one of their self-made series legit has one of the capture targets doing human trafficking but oh well ig fjdjjddj i like otomate games but it is does feel obvious looking back that they purposefully seem to be avoiding yuri, especially in the games where yuri routes wouldve made more sense than some of the routes they did make.
I really hope this series gets a yuri ending outside of the game then, i just dont know if the author is going to really go for it when it feels like the destination is either going to be all the characters hitting on karatina without her realizing forever or an eventual geordo endgame since he’s the one they pair her with most. I like geordo but a yuri ending would be wayyy more interesting to me

This might just be a me thing, but every time one of these animal transformation webcomics comes out and the fl turns back into a human i’m so bummed… ;w; the pre-transformation friendship/cuteness time is usually more fun to me than the relationship lmao
Also i’m annoyed that legit the ML saw her human form in his dreams and still tried to kill her, despite her VERY OBVIOUS eye color and hair clearly being the same. I get that he’s paranoid, and this type of misunderstanding happens a lot in webcomics, but it just felt kinda unnecessary and annoying, and just made the Lucas seem way better in comparison. Which sucks since w how these webcomics go, there is zero fucking chance Lucas is endgame

I dont mind childish fls, but i think they set her up in a way that she clashes with herself half the time. She desperately doesnt want to go to the royal capital for fear of being killed like last life, but doesnt recognize the guy who literally doomed her. One chapter she’s making paper necklaces for everyone, and the next shes using a maid to gather intelligence and pretend to work for the enemy. She switches from acting childish to acting like she’s this mastermind at random moments, and it feels really jarring since theres rarely any setup justifying this drastic switch in character. It kinda just feels like she switches whenever the author needs her to be a certain way for the plot to progress. I’m hoping they manage to get the character a bit more ironed out as she gets older, because rn she just doesnt feel like her own character.
I get why people get annoyed at “doormat protagonists” but i feel like a large amount people miss the very obvious fact that. If you are in a position like this, being an asshole to a ROYAL PRINCE would 100% get you and most likely your entire family imprisoned or executed. YES, it sucks watching characters not stand up for themselves sometimes. But in many of these cases i see people complain about including this one, doing an insanely large revenge plot would be both extremely stupid, and extremely dangerous to both the political landscape and the lives of everyone they care about. In irl situations, going up and doing a whole stink just makes you look worse.
In the case of this story, her dad and her classmates are the two social points of contact she has outside the prince. If she were to directly disobey her dad or the royal family, she’d probably be disowned, lose access to school (and therefore her friends and the house she grew up in that contains the last memories of her mom) AND all the classmate connections she has. She wouldnt be able to get a job, since disrespecting the prince would likely make every company in the royalty owned continent not want to associate and anger the royal family. She wouldn’t have money since she pissed her dad off.
I respect other people’s opinions and understand why people feel this way, i just really wish people didn’t always see power in terms of physical strength or ability to do sick roasts. Just like how it’s important to stand up for yourself at times, understanding when it’s dangerous and unrealistic to play hero is important too.
Apologies if you read this far, i’ve had this on my mind for a while, and not just w this story ( ̄∇ ̄") I think learning how FLs can handle, adapt, and learn to love again despite hardships is part of the fun part of this genre, so it saddens me when people accuse FLs of being weak for not lashing out at their aggressors. I think there are many ways to deal with things as an adult, and sometimes, letting someone’s mistakes catch up to them without doing anything and leaving them w their regrets can be the greatest hell you can grant them ( ❀╹◡╹) <3 Thank you for coming to my ted talk rant essay
I completely agree. I love my strong female characters as much as the next person, but sometimes they seem to be oversaturated in this genre. We have to remember that not everyone has the ability to be so strong willed. I would love to have this genre explore the characters who have no voice, and instead of using wicked schemes and violence to make an impact, they grow as a person who learns to love themselves. I think Under the Oak Tree is a perfect example of an mc who is the timid woman that a lot of people hate, but the story let's you know how she was pushed into that role and how with care from the people around her how she's able to grow and become more confident. I wish these types of characters were more prevalent, not just for the character growth, but also for the angst factor. Sorry for the long rant, but I just get tired of people bashing characters just because they don't fit into the strong, badass female character archetype.
True!! It’s really fun watching characters grow confidence to stand up over time too, I think watching a character learn courage over the course of the story and learning to live and love and feel emotions is so powerful, and i agree that it also makes for v good angst. I think there’s a time and place for both kinds of stories, and i appreciate that the genre has both stories focusing on the revenge side of getting back at others/exploring the fl’s ideas of justice, and also ones focusing on healing, learning to trust others and moving forward stronger with those you love. I hope people someday learn that there is strength in both sides ( ⌒▽⌒)
Glad we're in agreement. The wonder of reading is that you can experience multiple different scenarios that apply to the exact same circumstances. People just have to see the potential for all of them and not get stuck in one lane.
