actually no? cause it was already confirmed that shoto got it from an ice burn from his mom. shoto was already like, maybe 5 when he got it. he wasn’t a baby like in this chapter

I thought about that too but that would mean that Shoto has fake memories. Either forced in him or deformed by himself. :/

I dunno... this chapter had Endeavor discouraging Touya from training and hurting himself not once, but twice. Because his kid was constantly hurting himself. He bent down to Touya's level, held him by the shoulders and practically begged him to stop, to focus on other areas of his life, to make friends at school.
Endeavor seemed power hungry later when Shouto came along and his body didn't burn up when he used his fire powers. The pressure Touya was experiencing at school isn't something Endeavor could have really stopped unless he pulled him out of that school and put him in another where he made sure no-one knew they were related. Which would probably have been just as fucked up. If anything Touya's situation here reminds me of kid athletes out to outshine parents/idols/whatever who then over-train and/or attempt to push past injuries and end up physically unable to perform at professional levels.
Touya's obsessed and ambitious, even when his own dad is trying to tell him to stop. Daddy moving his attention to Shouto definitely had an impact, but trying to burn (murder) a baby is a pretty overblown reaction considering Endeavor hasn't even started training him (i.e. spending most of his time on him).
If Touya had been the one to burn Shouto instead of his mom, than Touya would most likely have been the one to end up in the psychiatric ward, and gotten the help and care he very much needed. Unless it went with the popular and damaging trope of making the psychiatric ward some terrible prison camp bullshit thing.
Also the mom wouldn't have been sent away for attacking and burning her 2 year old. Or maybe she would have still done it later, and Shouto would have more scars. Who knows.

But didn’t Endeavor task him with becoming #1 and surpassing All Might first— before and/or simultaneously during the school stuff? Peers definitely played a role in Touya’s pressure to overwork himself and surpass his father but Endeavor sought quirk marriage with Rei in order to breed a successor so really, wasn’t he always power hungry (back then at least)? He may have realized his mistakes only when Touya began severely burning himself, then he begged him to stop. This has happened again recently, he has been faced with the consequences of his actions and decided to actively try and patch his family situation up.
& yeah the Shouto scar thing was just something I said to imagine, I do believe Shouto got burned by his mother ;-;

Pushing your kids to accomplish 'greatness' is typical parenting, when it's too much, it's too much and terrible. It was bad of Endeavor, I'm not saying it's not, but come on, it's not like he was an utter monster, especially since he immediately wanted his son to stop as soon as he noticed that Touya would only hurt himself. Which is more than some other fictional parents i've come across. Like the way some people go on, you'd think Endeavor beat him on the regular and then called him a useless waste of space when he failed. Which from what i saw this chapter, he very much didn't. Also i dunno... it looked to me like this Endeavor told Touya he would be great and could surpass All Might, and then Touya took to it. It didn't feel to me like it was anywhere to the degree he was going on about it with Shouto. I still feel like my sports kid scenario very much fits.

Also i wouldn't really use 'power hungry', overly ambitious and obsessed is more like it (just like Touya!). The quirk marriage was an arranged marriage that the mom agreed to. She could have said no, there was no evidence provided that Endeavor coerced or blackmailed this deal in any way. He told her exactly what their marriage would be, and she said 'ok'. We don't know all the reasons i guess, but so far she very much shares responsibility for the family life that happened later. Which is also why it irks me that the story (but mostly the fandom) kind of frames her as some sort of poor wronged saint who got sucked into Endeavors mess, like she wasn't a grown ass adult also making decisions. Also I've seen other comments mentioning Endeavor hit her. WTF?? (︶︿︶)＝凸 Where did it say that?? When?? It's not even been implied! He could have definitely terrorized her mentally, and i'm still waiting for a flashback where we see that cause i don't find her thoughts on shouto looking more like his dad compelling enough to be pushed into burning him. Unless that was more about ptsd Touya then Endeavor or Shouto.

*ahem* apologies, that had nothing to do with what we were talking about. What i mean is, what happened to Touya was sad, definitely. But Endeavors horrible parenting was only a part of it. He became Dabi by making his own decisions. Even if Daddy had been competent, i don't think he would have grown up to be a good person. Or... i dunno he was so much like his father? So he probably would have grown up to be like him? An abuser of some sort? Maybe? Ugh.. I've probably lost you...
