Not to be insensitive but everyone expects you to fulfill your role/obligations during that filming. It was wrong timing that his abusive mom called him the day before but if really wanna be an actor, he gotta learn how to put on a professional mask. The MC knows already how people can be like this and I actually like that he's straightforward.
