as someone who's been through physical and mental abuse; people being nice to me, a husband, and a new environment isn't going to automatically get rid of my trauma that turned me into such a person. as yall can see, maxi was raised-- not as a noble, but a servant-- she did not recieve the same love and affection as a child should be gifted with. her decision to cut the oak tree was because she wanted to please riftan and she thought the tree was ugly; she was not educated to know the legend of a random tree in a new area she has never known/ been to in her whole life. please stop hating on fl who legit don't know any better, not every fl is going to be strong-minded and confident, especially after being abused and taught that they're worthless and not good enough. maxi is trying and she only had the intention of growing and showing riftan she can act a noble and make her own decisions. agreed, but I'd add that there's different kinds of strength, for her background she's really trying her best and dealing with the fear of being shut down (told you're worthless) at everything you try it's very hard to do anything in the first place. She's not weak, she's damaged.
I hope a friend/mentor/brotherly relationship forms between her and Ruth. He looks like the type to complain but will help and since he's somewhat aware now that she needs help, hopefully he'll look into it more and hopefully someone in the whole of castle realizes she's a traumatized, scared woman and reaches out to help.
