What in the Stockholm syndrome… okay… it’s time to defend Changil to prepare for the oncoming train of people calling him stupid……
OKAY if I put myself in his shoes, honestly like I think he’s in really desperate times and not thinking right. He’s fawning super duper hard to cope with everything, probably because Mr.choi feels like the only person who would take him in and praises him. Maybe Changil attached to him the way a victim attaches to an abuser, where he unconsciously forced himself to believe that he loves mr choi to feel safe, since mr choi only treats him nicely when he’s docile and affectionate.
Honestly like I’ve had my fair share of abusive relationships and I get it. Chang il is fawning so hard he confused his fear for love; since he’s so desperate and pretty much has no one except mr Choi. He DOESNT want to be afraid of Mr Choi since that means losing the one (delusional) source of comfort for him in his entire life. He WANTS to love and trust Mr Choi, but obviously he can’t which is why we see this weird, docile and inauthentic version of his love. He’s afraid to really love Mr Choi, so he forces himself into a docile and submissive state so he doesn’t have to be scared.
It’s also something with the feedback he gets from his behaviour—he’s obviously mistreated when he’s “chang-il,” perhaps he even blames himself for getting raped because he didn’t “like it enough,” so combined with Mr Choi only being nice when he’s docile and affectionate + blaming himself for being HIMSELF, chang-il might’ve had a personality “shift” because of the positive feed back of mr choi and the negative feedback of mr choi and others SAing him in the past when he was “Chang-il.”
Also, I think he doesn’t want to think that mr choi, the only person left in his life wants to rape him, so he 1. Blames himself and 2. Forces himself to like it so it’s “not rape.”
