Guys y’all should read Warehouse idk

This felt like a concept to pitch

gayshley 囧 asked a question

Genuinely, it feels like the demographic of ppl who mainly consume Yaoi mangas and Yaoi manhwas is completely different at times

Personally, I used to love manhwas when I was younger, and I definitely put up with a lot of bad writing and tropes I wouldn’t tolerate now. I mainly still consume manga/manhwa for entertainment, but sometimes that tiny part of my brain can’t help but look at stories at a more critical angle.

I noticed that a lot of manhwas I read recently (not all, of course) have mediocre writing at best. Since these series are usually longer and released over time, I often find myself investing a lot, only to feel disappointed.

I’m so confused when I see such high ratings. It feels like many readers of manhwas are more willing to overlook flaws, while mangas get picked apart more critically. Makes me wonder if the demographic is just fundamentally different now.

I’m only on chapter 18 BUT WOOWW THEY ARE SOME MESSY FIGHTERS Honestly, the way they fight is super realistic. Full on roasting sessions and straight hands

Woah. I have so many mixed feelings about this! Crazy how different the two endings were and none of them felt satisfying lol. I feel like this had a lot of potential but was kind of a let down from the writing front in some regards. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the unexpected comedic tone of the manga despite its thematics

gayshley 囧 created a topic of Hell Dogs

Hell Dogs has probably been one of the best mangas, if not the best manga I’ve read this year. It might be short but doesn’t lack emotional depth and conflict that even makes the reader fluctuate. Seriously, throughout the manga I could deeply feel Kanetaka‘s struggle and kept wondering: „what would I do if I was in this situation?“ I definitely would NOT know what to do. And this is brilliant writing in my opinion.

This is an emotionally charged story that actually makes you root for the bad guys despite the frequent reminder of how awful they are. And this is why I love this manga so much: It perfectly shows how there is more to „evil“ and „good“ - purpose and belonging play a huge part in it as well. Morals can easily become fluid once personal feelings and friendship are involved. It’s like when people say they would rather safe their dog instead of a group of people. It’s „irrational“ but these deep connections overshadow rationality.

Throughout the manga we see Kanetaka gain his purpose in the Yakuza. He‘s found brothers, mentors, people that respect him and he‘s struggling because he doesn’t wanna deceive this new-found family.
As a reader I actually kept rooting for him to stay in the Yakuza as well. And now it’s clear to me why:

Deep human relationships can can easily bend your morals because of how important and meaningful they are to us.

We never see Kanetaka have any type of relationship as his police-officer self. He’s like a stranger to us as well, as we never got to see his face before surgery. Even his parents are just briefly mentioned.

His life as a police officer feels empty.

The characters on the police side mainly serve as a moral reminder. The Masseuse opens up about her soon, who got killed by the Yakuza. Anai reminds him of justice as well, but it’s clear he mainly uses Kanetaka to fulfill his personal revenge. They ultimately use him all. Emotionally manipulating him. His past, the death of three innocent girls in a grocery store, keeps haunting him as a reason to continue the mission.
He wants to bring justice.
He wants to be morally good.
But this mission is in direct conflict with the people he learned to love. Kanetaka knows that even after surviving the mission , he can’t return to being a cop. Not after what’s been lost.

One of my favourite and probably the craziest scene was when Kanetaka had to kill Masouka to protect his identity. Kanetaka doesn’t simply kill an opponent , he kills someone who’s probably the closest person to him. Masouka isnt simply his partner, he’s like a little brother, his right hand man. Seriously, that scene was a punch to the gut. And it’s even worse because Masouka doesn’t want to fight Kanetaka either. He even tells him to run away. Despite being hurt about the deceit he doesn’t hate Kanetaka. He still loves and cares for him. Their relationship is beyond organisations and morals. As Masouka is dying in Kanetaka‘s arm they share one last laugh together, making fun of Kanetaka’s real name. It’s tragic. And that’s when Kanetaka breaks. Even if he’s doing this for justice, it wasn’t worth killing his friend over.

One of the biggest mysteries was why Toake chose to stay with the Yakuza. Later, Kanetaka ends up understanding that decision deeply, because he goes through the same conflict himself. And I can’t even judge the boss for his decision as I wanted Kanetaka to accept his deal and stay with the Yakuza himself :‘(
We understand the boss’s decision.

Because emotions can be stronger than morals.

In the end, Kanetaka doesn’t fully chose either side, or maybe he chooses both sides? He kills tbe people who came to see as family and then publishes the file that will destroy the police from within.
Maybe it’s out of revenge.
Maybe it’s guilt.
Or maybe it’s his way of doing one last favor to the Yakuza.

The ending is heartbreaking. We know it had to be done. Kanetaka did the right thing and prevented more evil from happening in Japan, but at what cost?

I miss those moments when Kanetaka could just laugh and mess around with his „family“. It definitely made everything else even more painful.

I wonder what’s going on the authors mind that she’s been able to write such a despicable character like Satou for over 10 years and not get tired of it. The „I don’t think I’m enough so I’m leaving“ troupe is very common, BUT FREAKIN 14 VOLUMES IN?? The drama is SO forced and it’s probably gonna end with Satou having little to no character development anyways. He’s probably gonna go back to bullying Yoshida right away after he forgives him easily
