damn the angstttt. he returned to the past to ask for forgiveness and to make things right, but she also returned and now lowkey hates him because she thinks he he’s the cause of all her suffering… i can’t wait till she finds out everything that happened to her is because of her “father” (more like sperm giver, don’t know if i can call that a father). i get that he’s mourning because his wife died but damn your daughter was in that accident too tf
i think this is the first time i’ve cried whilst reading a manhwa.. this whole situation is so painful and i pity all of them. the duke who loves his wife but can’t bring himself to truly show it because he believes he can never get her heart, and that his love will only bring her more misery.
the duchess who had to give up her freedom to marry someone for the sake of her family, which resulted in her becoming depressed to the point where she even resented her own son. and the fact that she died filled with regrets.
and of course the son who never received love from his mother.
i reallllyyyy love this so muchhhh i’m crying
I don’t understand why some of the comments are frustrated with the mc because she’s asking a lot of questions. Their relationship lacks communication which is why everything is messy af right now, so her asking a lot of questions is a good thing. Hopefully the ml answers honestly instead of making things more complicated
At this point I think the card the author is playing is that everyone is dense, which is incredibly frustrating. On top of this, the author put in time-skips for almost no reason because there was no actual progress within those time-skips.
As for the MC, she's someone with past memories and this knowledge has already been shown to influence her actions in a smarter, sometimes more mature, manner (trying to survive by getting close to Nocton to use him, etc in the beginning). Yet this same mentality is no longer present because the author is wrote her to be almost as dumb as bricks after she "broke up" her friendship with Nocton. Even Aaron/Alice were like "you don't just go out of your way to give someone a huge jar of holy water" or something which was such a huge clue, but MC is still not piecing it together. She's projecting her fears onto Nocton without truly assessing the situation, meaning she played a big part in this lack of meaningful communication. With this new chapter, we witness the MC asking what's essentially meaningless questions and going in circles while Nocton is arguably trying his best.
For a better breakdown, let's take her questions directly from the new chapter:
1. "Is a person's mind that insignificant to you?"
This already shows she's smearing the villain label on him because her reaction shows that instead of being neutral, she's already in fear of him. Not saying she isn't justified, but her tone is my point here. Despite this, Nocton answers honestly and opens up about how he was going to be taken advantage of. MC has a flashback to how she ignored all this and yet her first feeling isn't truly sorrow born from regret, but sorrow born from fear.
2. "What, are you trying to say that I'm special?"
Nocton proceeds yet again to be open and honest instead of taking offense, yet her first reaction is to be petty ("That's what I wanted to hear when I was younger" page 6). She then thinks about how maybe she was wrong (wow! being more open-minded to further progress in this communication!) but then instantaneously goes back to how she was before when she states she can't trust/believe in Nocton anymore. The irony with this statement is that she trusts Alice who reports having prophetic dreams over someone who's stepping out of their comfort zone to be open and apologize properly. This is something MC cannot deny as she would know by now that Nocton is very closed off.
3. There's a bunch of questions on Page 7, the first ones being pretty insignificant so I'll just get to the real important question: "What is it you want in return?"
This is where Nocton went wrong in this communication. Nocton does not answer in time which is even worse IF he was given time to begin with. MC stepping back to the broken terrace was put in to infer that the communication would end here (ultimately meaning it was fruitless for both parties since communication is a two-way street but obviously MC was not here to talk it out). The little necklace finally plays a part and further deepens the problem. MC straight up lies, and Nocton knows now that MC never intended to communicate or listen to him in the first place which is, tada, more conflict on top of the fact she lied. Who would get a couple item that had magical enchantments on it that acts as protection without a purpose?
TLDR: MC asked a bunch of MEANINGLESS questions (quantity =/= quality), Nocton wasn't honest when he needed to be at the end, and now the situation is worse. But the fact remains that Nocton came to this discussion to be honest, yet the MC was NOT here to be honest. Therefore the issue lies more on the MC's side.
If I could like this reply a thousand times I would. Because you literally explained how I feel about all of this. I get why she is like this but she's being extremely hypothetical and lying about certain things. It's annoying. She's annoying me. She was just like Sheryl in the beginning too. It's just so frustrating.
