I'm asking again.. I randomly remembered a scene in a BL manhwa(?), I'm not sure if it was the main couple or a side couple but in this part of the story, they were in a college party or gathering and all of the guys had to dress up as girls and get like auctioned or just like voted the most pretty... and one of the guys was like famous for winning bc he was naturally really pretty.. long story short the other guy didn't like guys at the time or was kinda homophobic (ik ew) I think and when he saw the other guy dressed as a girl, he kinda like fell in love.. ofc not knowing it was the guy, but later in the scene figured it out.. AHHH sorry it's hard to understand but I'm pretty sure I finished this manhwa but I can't seem to remember where it came from and it's bugging meeee!! I think it was from Fools?? or Heesu in Class 2??? IDK PLS HELP, I already try finding it ;;

ok so, I've been seeing a lot of opinions about yaoi readers, or fujioshi's, and that they are mostly fetishizing MLM.. and though I do not fetishize it, rather just enjoy reading yaoi more than other genres, I wonder if that's still consider it?? idk, what I am rlly asking here is that when does something rlly become fetishizing?? is it rlly bad to rlly like yaoi?? what's your opinions? I'd like to be more informed about this! Thanks in advance! (⊙…⊙ )

Imo, you cant really dictate a person not to like this or that. Everybody has their own preferences so its okay to enjoy them but like you need to be discrete so it doesnt make others uncomfortable. (=・ω・=)

    paolabear December 2, 2020 9:13 am

also when I mean yaoi, I don't necessarily mean smutty ones, I mean just BL in general!

    sorein December 2, 2020 9:16 am

as long as you're not one of those people who go 'damn straight manga sucks, this is why i only read yaoi bc its spicier' or some shit under other mangas, you'll be fine. if you read bl and enjoy it, go ahead. it's literally why most of it is written: to be enjoyed by a female audience.

    LeynaSept December 2, 2020 9:16 am

Enjoying yaoi and thinking it is hot is okay. I personally say people are okay to like whatever they want as long as they aren't being directly offensive.
Personally I say fetishizing goes too far is when you get creepy with the fangirling.

idk imo I enjoy bl just like how I enjoy straight stories. I think an example of fetishizing mlm is when the shipper shits on straight and thinks mlm is superior and just full of smex

Yess, exactly. There's a limitation to everything so yeah lets be mature enough to set boundaries and respect others (▰˘◡˘▰)

oh yea, I do not hate on other genres at all and ppl who do are very annoying! I wished ppl understand that everyone's different.. I love yaoi but I also try to expand my liking of other genres in mangas/manhwas/etc!

I get so mad whenever someone mentions that it's fetishizing. In some cases, it is, and that is when you not only fetishize 2d gay men but real men irl, and they don't even have to be gay. Something like, "ayo dude Kyle and Parker are totally gay for each other! You think they bang each other??" The next thing is whether you only read yaoi for smex scenes, and 'get into it' with it. So, as long as you don't fetishize real men and only read yaoi for the smut, you're good. Some people say yaoi is only for gay men to read, no! Yaoi was actually designed for women to read because women don't want to project themselves, as they do in shoujo. Hope this clears up the minds of those who think yaoi is fetishizing. (/TДT)/

    Official.Simp December 2, 2020 9:35 am

Nope, there's actually a reason that many girls prefer yaoi over some straight stories, yaoi is easier for girls to enjoy since while reading straight romances we tend to even subconsiously imagine how we'd react to a man doing those things which means a lot of straight romances seem way cringier while reading yaoi you can focus on their relationship since you're less likely projecting yourself into the mc, second of all, it's a little taboo, anybody reads straight romances while chances are, if you're reading a bl, chances are you have read one or were looking for one, meaning not everybody reads yaoi. And finally, it allows you to see men being vulnerable, many straight manga's characters go by the stereotypical gender norms while there is hardly any such thing in yaoi, making it very refreshing. As long as you know you're not fetishizing bl it's completely ok.

That's you're internalized misogyny talking if you're cringing. You're basically putting women on higher standards when it comes to romance.

thank youuu!! I like BL for the story & characters for the most part, the steamy moments are just a plus, I just don't necessarily read yaoi for just the smut! I agree with everything you said, and it does clear up my confusion! ヾ(☆▽☆)

Ill just add it here. Its because fetishizing gay(including other genders) people is like disregarding their dignity. Its like you treat them like an object which you shouldnt be. I think this also applies to races. Like when fetishizing black people equates to being a racist.

Nah I'm saying that a lot of romances have the basic tropes that remind me of some very cringy tv shows and books I used to enjoy, just imagine twilight or highschool musical and you might see what I was meaning, I actually enjoy it more often than not.

I agree. But you also phrase it by saying yaoi does it better. Do you see my point? All genres fall under stereotypical cringefest in one way or another. BL is not above that.

    minutta December 2, 2020 10:09 am

As long as you don't force the stereotypes found in yaoi onto real-life people you should be good. Shipping real men because they're cute is a little creepy as well since it means you want them together just because they're good-looking and lgbt+ relationships aren't about looks and sex life. And if you think gay couples are disgusting in real life because they aren't as pretty as 2D men then yes, you are a fetishizer. This is my opinion as someone that's part of the community so yeah.

hold up im kinda concerned about this. Please realise that having men take on 'vulnerable' roles is exactly the stereotype feminine roles. Like these vulnerable men are still exploited by masculine men. A lot of yaoi stories glorifies toxic masculinity and you should be aware of that it is not rlly refreshing idk

thank u!! I agree! hypocrites that enjoy something fictional while hating on it in real life isn't ok.. as well as judging relationships based on looks and if you find them compatible or not, it's really up to the people in the relationship.
